Hi there,

I know its early for me yet but I aim to breastfeed and have seen a Tommee Tippee Electronic Breast pump for half price.

I just wondered if any of you had any experience of these and if they are any good.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks x

Is it the Closer to Nature one?

If so, mine broke after a couple of goes and I sent it back and got a refund. Seen a couple of other people say the same. However, also seen a couple of people who really liked it.

I wouldn't recommend it. The Medela Swing is popular but a bit more expensive.

i prefer the TT manuel one over the electric there were problems with the valve on the Electric one for a while when it first came out at the begining of the year but TT might have fixed it.

i wouldnt sugest buying an electric one if this is your first baby till after baby is here and you know that your body works for expressing caus not everyone can express

I gave up on mine quite quickly. It never worked properly. I could express double the milk in half the time with a TT manual pump!

I agree that it might be worthwhile just picking up a manual pump rather than an electric pump before your LO is here.
I had bought the tommee tippee manual one (for £10) before I had my son - I thought it was a cheaper way to see how I managed with expressing before buying the much more expensive electric one. :flower:

same here. I now use the medela swing though & an avent isis manual pump & I get double the amount I was getting with the TT ones.

Looks like i'm different to most of the replies so far.. I had TT manual, was ok, cheap and a good start point but i found the constant pumping really hurt my wrist after only using it twice. I then got TT electric, half price, and think it's great. Expresses similar amount to the manual but in way less time and much less hassle! One downside is it sometimes hurts the nipple a little (nothing major) - have to position nipple in it carefully.

Some great advice there, thanks ladies.

Yes, its the closer to nature one - I've heard mixed reviews really so thought I'd ask here on a 'specialised' forum specifically aimed at people who 'want' to BF rather than some 'random' members of the public!?

We have a really good BF support group here. A guy who I work with, his mum runs it so he's told me about it. I fully intend getting up there before LO is due to see what goes on there. I also know they hire out electric ones.

I've seen the manual pump, I think it will make my wrist ache but think I'll try that first to see how I go after everything you've all said. I really want to express so my boyfriend can get involved in feeding the baby, giving them some really special time together.

I'm so determined to BF but really worried that I won't be able to. My best friend had a tough labour and baby was too tired too BF and she never did manage it after slogging away for 2 weeks so I'm all too aware how you can have the best intentions and get beaten. I wasn't even got to get sterilisers and bottles as I didn't want to be tempted to FF if it didn't work at first but now I realise I need these if I'm going to express LOL

I was really worried about it as well after hearing so many horror stories but we're just coming up to our 6 month milestone! If you have the support and determination the odds are on your side!

As for expressing, I've tried them all and hand expressing is actually the best for me! Xx

I think it would depend on how often you plan to express too as I was going to buy an electric but as they are so expensive I thought I would buy the cheaper TT manual one at £10 and try it to make sure I go on with expressing before spending a lot and this one worked fine for me and I have only ended up expressing a bottle off once every couple of weeks for OH to feed her so didn't bother upgrading to electric.

I have no idea how often I will/need to express yet. I have no idea of the logistics! All the talk of alomst constant feeding at times is making me wonder when the hell you get a chance to LOL.

It'll all work out I'm sure, you just gotta roll with it I guess.

We're going to town tomorrow so I think we may just pick up the TT manual one.

Thanks everyone - no doubt I'll be back with another question before long!
