Hi!

No teeth here yet, but definitely teething. We saw our pediatrician yesterday and I asked what kind of tooth care we would need to be doing... he said he didn't advise brushing before 1 year, but we could get a finger brush or wipe with a cloth (in either case without toothpaste) "if we wanted".

Just curious as to what you do? And what was your dr/dentists advice? I have to say that not brushing seems wrong to me. Milk has sugar in it... not to mention that she will have solids (inc. Fruit) before 1.

Very interested to hear what you do!

We started brushing after the tooth came all the way through (maybe a month after it started to pop through). I don't really think we used toothpaste right away, probably just water, but we did start with toothpaste (the low flouride baby kind) shortly thereafter. I've never heard anyone advise not to brush before a year. Certainly, I don't think you need to stress about it the second a bit of tooth pops through. Give it time to come all the way through and for teething symptoms and sensitivity to go away. But I would start doing something after that, if only to start getting used to the process.

We didn't brush lo's teeth until around a year but she had a toothbrush in the bath and used to just chew on it then we used to brush our teeth together and she soon got the hang of it watching. I used to wipe her teeth with a cloth when the first popped through x

Dd 'brushes' her teeth when I do mine in the morning...we use boots baby toothpaste, just a little smear. She mostly chomps on the bristles :haha:

Through the day she plays with her toothbrush, again chomping on it, and she has a brushbaby (I think that's what it's called) silicone toothbrush as well as her normal baby one, and she chews on that through the day too.

At night I make sure I give them a proper clean with a smear of toothpaste and a muslin, just before she goes to sleep.

We started as soon as her first tooth started to come through, a few days shy of 6 months :)

My 11-month-old has eight teeth and has done for quite some time. She got her first tooth at 5 months.

I've brushed from day one with low fluoride or fluoride free toothpaste - just a tiny smear on her brush. We used to brush once a day when she had just a couple of teeth and wasn't really eating many solid foods, but now she has her teeth brushed twice a day.

With so many teeth, I feel it would be unwise not to, especially as she eats a lot of fruit, yoghurts and smoothies. I'd hate not to brush my teeth! I don't see why she should be any different. :)

I've just bought this for my DS to start with once he's a bit bigger. Plan on just using baby toothpaste with it.

My almost 8mth okd has 7 teeth and I brush them with a little smear of toothpaste (that the childsmile lady gave us)

I dont understand why.he would tell you not to brush tbh

Our pediatrician recommended brushing with a low fluoride toothpaste. My 11 month old has 6 teeth, and we just starting brushing twice a day - had been doing once a day since 7 or 8 months.

I usually brush top and bottom, then i give the brush to him to play around with.
