Toys for 1 year olds birthday

Hiya

Its my baby girls 1st birthday next month and people are starting to ask what they should get her, normally I would say oh just get her whatever you want but I would rather tell them what would be useful rather than people buy herheaps of clothes that she will hardly wear

I want her to have fun educational toys that will help her learn and develop well.

Any ideas please?

Around that age Owen started to like shape sorters and stuff that you can open and close,I got him the fisher price piggy bank which you put the big chunky coins in the slot and open the bottom to get them out.Also he would enjoy 'talking' on a toy phone and pushing his stride to ride dinosaur around.
Books with flaps/touch and feely bits.

Agree with shape sorters! And musical toys like drums and xylophones!

We will get LO a smart trike for her birthday.

My LO turns one just before christmas. We have bought the following with the intention that she will grow into them throughout the next year:
- Fisher Price garage
- Little People Noah's Ark (both good for improving motor skills and encouraging interactive play)
- Toy telephone (again good for interactive play)
- Hammer and ball bench (good for motor skills)
- Wooden puzzles (good for motor skills and investigation of shapes/colours/animals)
- Aquadoodle mat (good for motor skills and will hopefully last long enough to practice drawing/writing!)
- CD player (similar to fisher price record player)

Am so excited for her birthday and christmas! Can't wait to play with all of her new toys (We haven't really bought her alot of toys but have chosen ones that will grow with her...must say though, I'm getting bored now and would like some new toys to play with!!!)
