Has anyone been advised to drink peppermint cordial afterwards? A friend of mine says the trapped wind pains after a section are terrible and the midwives told her to drink it. Just wondering if everyone gets these pains and what works to ease it? I can't stand mint, to the point where there's no way I could get it down, let alone keep it down!

oh my god the wind pains were worse than the op pains! i took rennie deflatine which were fantastic but they are mint...although a very mild mint x

I got stuff from the midwifes in hospital and only needed the 1 drop, I found that holding a pad against my wound seemed to give me that bit more confidence to "push" lol it dd take me a couple of days tho

Thanks, I'll take some of those with me, I'm sure I'll manage if the pain is bad. Sounds much less hideous than a mint drink, bleurgh!

omg I remember those pains, and I'm not looking forward to it. I think I just suffered through it, I didn't know you could prevent them.

Those pains hurt! :( I got advised the same and I bought peppermints and sucked them.

The wind pains for me were horrendous :( i took windeeze and was told to drink fizzy apple pop to make me burp! I also struggled going to the loo as i had really bad pain across my scar although after i stopped taking the iron tablets it was soo much better!

I only had a bit of pain and then could actually pass wind rather than it being trapped. It did take me about four days to go to the toilet though, but after that everything settled right away which was a relief as passing a movement whilst pregnant was not pleasant! The thing I found hurt most was coughing, sneezing and laughing!

Xx

Did anyone else find they had pain up top of the back shoulder area that was supposed to be trapped wind?!

yes, this is where I got the pain. I took a Rennie deflatine and it went pretty much straight away

I didn't get this I don't think? Certainly don't remember!xx

Are we allowed to take these as soon after the op as we need too? Gonna get stocked up ready! Xx

They gave me gas-x in the hospital and went away pretty much right away....

So glad I wasn't the only one!! I thought it was really weird didn't know what it was at first. I only had it with my last section don't remember getting it with the other 3.

I have a really embarrasing story: I had no idea about trapped wind after op. no one tells you. So I panicked...they were so painful I thought it was my scar coming open... i rang an ambulance eeeeek
