Hi all, firstly I don't want to scare anyone just want to tell my story
Here goes - I already had 3 children Jessica 10, Katie 7 and Conrad 6, we didn't know the sex of our new bundle so were really excited about the arrival. My son Conrad was just over 10lb so myself and my consultant decided on an induction on my due date if I hadn't already started because we thought this was going to be another big baby. So the day came and nothing was happening so off I went to the maternity unit and was admitted. I was given my 1st lot of 6hrly gel in the evening on Monday 6th December, nothing happened. I was given my second lot of 6hrly gel the next evening baring in mind it is supposed to be 6hrly still nothing happened. On wednesday I had prostin put in and that was to be removed Thursday. Thursday came and still nothing had happened, the prostin was removed and to my extreme happiness I was 1cm dilated
I thought this was it, not long now baby and you'll be in my arms. Because I had started dilating I was told I could have my waters broken but this could only be done on the delivery suite with a one to one MW and one wasn't availalable so I had to wait. Friday came, no MW available
, Saturday came no MW available
I was getting really frustated by now as I had 3 other children at home and felt like I'd abandoned them, hubby was doing a great job with them but I missed the like crazy
So Saturday evening I threatened to sign myself out and a fantastic MW got me onto delivery but was still told nothing would happen yet at least I was there. While I was on delivery my waters broke but only trickled a little and I knew what was there was meconium, I showed the MW and she said not to worry that's not meconium it's just a bit of you
I went to sleep Saturday night still no sign of LO making an appearance. Sunday morning I was woken early to find that they were finally going to break my waters properly and get me hooked up to a drip so I rushed out quickly to phone hubby to get up there, I thought this is going to be quick, my others were so fast. Hubby got there with my sister Georgina and my waters had already been broken and yes there was meconium I knew I was right, I was getting really nervous now of the impending birth. A few hours passed and nothing was happening not even a twinge so I was put on the drip to get contractions going, within half hour I was having some minor lower back pain and the MW face was not good, I knew then something was wrong. Baby was moving well but the monitor kept showing that babies heartbeat was dipping. I got up to go to the toilet and was put back on the monitor, the MW was not happy at all, the babies baseline heartrate was dropping so she called in a consultant, they tried attatching a clip to babies head which was when I really started to panic. They couldn't reach, MW said babies head was still free and nowhere near engaged so she needed someone with longer fingers
from here things went so fast, after a few minutes a male consultant came running in, he'd been bleeped and had run from the other side of the hospital he was having his lunch lol. He tried and eventually got the clip attatched to babies head, they said baby was face up and very far back and my cervix wasn't doing anything and was really high
I think I knew then what was going to happen I just looked at hubby and cried. They left me half and hour to see what babies heart rate was doing and then came back, they weren't happy baby was coping so the decision was made to have an emergency c-section. My socks were put on, forms were signed and off I went, being wheeled away looking back at my sister saying to me everything would be ok. I was prepped and told what was happening then I was given a spinal and moved to another bed, checked all over for numbness, I was so the sheet went up and it all began. About 15 odd miutes later I heard my beautiful baby BOY cry, wrapped in a towel and passed to his dad
I was so overwhelmed, but then the drugs started to move up my body so I couldn't even hold my head back to look at him so just stared at the ceiling til I was sewn up. Hubby was allowed out to show my sister our new littt=le boy but then came straight back and we were moved to recovery. The lovely lady who assisted with the delivery came and told me my baby was very lucky to be alive as he had the cord around his neck once and also had tow knots in it and would have almost certainly been still born had I laboured naturally. I was so scared at the time of the section but so relieved he was here in my arms safe and sound waiting to meet his amazing family. Our little boy weighed in at 9lb 1oz and we named him John George Jones, he is now almost 6 months old and doing well, wow it feels good to get all that out
I wish everyone safe and happy arrivals of their LO's xxx
Oh almost forgot I am now expecting baby no.5, I'm scared as it's so close after having a section but I've been assured I'll carry fine but will have to have another section, at least this one will be planned. I've a long time to wait as I'm only 4+3 weeks
