Hi Ladies,

I am 15 weeks 1 day today pregnant with twins ; I am an expat in Dubai planning to go back home (Seattle, WA) by week 26.
I still haven't asked my OB for his opinion, will do so during my next visit but until then what do you ladies think?
Is it safe to fly that long by plane?

Inwould think it would be fine, just double check with your doctor. Im going away in March, so in the second half of second trimester. Just make sure you have all the necessary shots and you have medical insurance!

Provided you have no complications it should be fine. You'll need to stay well hydrated and make sure to get up and walk and stretch every hour or so to prevent cramps and protect against blood clots. I'd strongly suggest an aisle.seat. Check with your OB, but I did 6 hour flights at 27 and 28 weeks in my first pregnancy with no trouble.

I took a 6 hour flight from Seattle while 27 weeks last time! No problem I just got up often and drank water like pp said. This time we were planning on a trip to Paris at 33 weeks but it didn't work out for other reasons.

Generally speaking.... Totally fine! (unless there are any complications or any specific reasons your OB would tell you there was a concern)

My fertility doctors were SUPER conservative. I KNEW if they said something was okay it was definitely 100 perfect fine. Before I got released from them at 12 weeks, I asked them about flying at week 28 (my best friend's wedding). She said 100 percent fine (unless something comes up of course, complication-wise).

Be sure to:
drink some extra water
get up and walk on the plane every hour or so
get a check-up as close to your departure as possible

There is NO issues with actually flying. No altitude issues or pressurization issues. It's just the concept of sitting still for a long time and blood clot concerns (hence get up and walk/drink) and being away from your doctor (hence get a checkup before you go).

Also... just FYI... you CAN always opt for a pat-down instead of going through the metal detector machines. I'm not saying you have to. But just know it's always an option.

I'm flying at 28 weeks about 3 hrs away to our vacation home in Miami. Not sure I'd travel all the way to Dubai in third trimester but then again where I live dubai is 24 hr flight so I just don't see myself doing that but maybe for you it's closer :)

During end of second Tri with my second child I flew to North America from Europe (and back). I did see my doctor the week before just to double check all seemed OK. No issues at all. I'd do it again if I had to... it's more just a pain in the butt having to be on a plane for that long, esp. while pregnant!
