Hi all, we're expecting our first DS in December of this year and have found it really tough to decide on a boys name.

Our dd has a pretty unusual name and so we didn't want to choose something too common or over used for this little one.

Our dd's name is edeline and we usually shorten this to her nn Edie. The name we are thinking of for our ds is gabriel with the nn Gabe (although my DH prefers it not to be shortened at all)

Just wanted really honest opinions as I know it's not a commonly used name. Also we need an idea of middle names. Dd has two (edeline violet Elizabeth) so we're looking for two for our little boy as well.

I love the name Gabriel but OH took it straight off the list.

Gabriel Josiah was my favourite middle name x

I've mentioned it to DH before and he didn't like it. My cousin has a daughter named Gabriella, so I wouldn't use it anyway. But I love it!

My friends children are Edie and Gabriel so I think they go together well and it's a lovely name

I love the name Gabe but a friend has son named that and I wouldn't want to double up. I'm trying to think of middle names for you too.

What's your OH's name/middle name? Could you use them like Gabriel OH first name, second name?

I love the name Gabriel, but hate the nn. "Gabe" - so I would personally only use Gabriel as a middle name so that it can't be shortened.

Well your DDs name is 3 / 2 / 4 syllables - so I will keep your son's name the same:

Obviously I love it I don't think it is that quirky just not very common. My friend's little boy is Gabriel shortened to Gabe x

I love Gabriel and the nn Gabe. My brothers name is Robin Gabriel, I think they go well together, so I'd suggest Robin as a middle name. Some other suggestions:

Rupert
Hugo

I adore the name Gabriel! I picture a wide-eyed little cherub looking baby though, lol. I'd have loved to use the name, but it's my younger brother's name. He goes by both Gabriel and Gabe.

We are going with Gabriel Michael if our third is a boy (which is my hunch!). Such a beautiful and strong name and meaning, whether you are religious or not.

It probably will eventually be shortened to Gabe, which I'm ok with, but i will forever call him Gabriel...ok, ok, I've already nick named him my Gabey-baby

we picked Michael as a middle name because both Gabriel and Michael are archangels and we like classic, more traditional names. You could also throw a maiden name in there, grandfather's name, hubbie's middle name.

If my third is a boy, we've exhausted all our family names for our other two boys - but they always got a first name to call their own.
