Tuesday morning (1st May) i woke up thinking i had wet myself so obviously thought 'woo my waters had gone' and then a few hours later i started loosing my plug WITH blood in it, also had been having regular pains every 10 mins. Decided to phone the hospital and they told me to come in to get checked. Went in and they put me on the monitor for 20 minutes (all fine) she then gave me an internal exam, said i only had a 'leakage' and that i was 1cm dialated 2cm thick and posterior! Went home still having pains but could handle them. That night i fell asleep, woke up and the pains had gone!! So disapointed, but then by the afternoon they had returned starting at every ten mins again. Tried to sleep Wednesday night but couldnt get any the pains were starting to get intense. Rang the hospital back Thursday morning and they told me to have paracetamol, a bath and ring back if no change. Obviously no change so rang them back and they told me to go in. Got there and they put me on a monitor AGAIN, everything fine. She gave me an internal and said i was still 1cm but i was 100% effaced and cervix was nice and soft. She told me to go for a walk and come back in 4 hours to see if there was any progress. Instead i went home and bounced on my ball, pains were getting to 5 mins apart now.. rang the hospital after 6-7 hours instead of 4 hours and they told me to stay home. I couldnt stay home any longer so decided to make my way to the hospital without telling them (they couldnt turn me away!) So here we are back at the hospital, on the monitor again and now they were saying that baby's heartbeat was too fast. They put me on a drip with fluids incase i was dehydrated and if that was making the baby's heartbeat high. Doctor came in an hour later and said the baby was fine, her heartrate kept going high because she was very active! Midwife then gave me an internal & also a sweep to get things moving. I was now 3cm. They sent me into a room (was with my partner all the way through this) and was put on the monitor again!!
Baby was fine, my pains were getting worse. Tried to get some sleep but everytime i nearly dozed off i'd have a contraction. By this point i was loosing alot of Plug with quite alot of blood in it. The time now was around 4am Friday (4th May). Midwife checked me and gave me cocodamol, i was now 3-4cm and really needing pain relief.. my legs were shaking. She rang labour ward and they said i could go over. They wheeled me over in a wheelchair because the pain was unbearable! Got there and they put me back on the monitor and i had to stay on that until i'd had her. Gave me Gas & Air which i thought was great at first but you had to suck it right from the start of a contraction for it to work and by the time the peak of the contraction came i felt sick so couldnt suck anymore. So now i was deffenately planning on having an epidural, midwife decided that she was going to check how dialated i was and see if she could break my waters and then was going to call for the anathesist (sp). I was 5-6cm when she checked and they broke my water. She gave me a leaflet to read about all the pro's and con's of the epidural, was now having second thoughts about it. She asked if i wanted to try pethidine first so i agreed. After a while the pethidine started to kick in but didnt do anything for the pain, made me feel really drunk and sleepy inbetween contractions. I forgot all about the epidural because of how drunk i felt but i remember the pain of the contractions and OMG it is the worst pain in the world im not going to lie. What felt like a few minutes later i felt like i really need a poo. Was shouting at the midwifes telling them i was going to poo and to take me to the toilet but they just kept saying it was baby pushing her head down. Now at this point my body started taking over (was 8cm now) it was pushing on its own. They kept shouting at me telling me to suck the gas and air when my body was pushing so that my body would stop pushing (didnt want cervix to swell). It was unbelieveable, soooo crazy how your body does it on its own. It felt like i was doing this for about an hour. In the end i couldnt bear it anymore and was screaming at the midwife telling her to check my cervix, she checked and said i had a tiny bit left at the top but said i could start pushing when i wanted. As soon as i knew i could push i was over the moon, its the best feeling ever but now it felt like the contractions were fading
they were still there though so i just made myself push and then a contraction would come (thats what it felt like). She came out with her head facing sideways so they were turning her head whilst it was coming out and woooooow the sting & burn was imense. Another few more pushes and she was out! She was placed straight on to me and i was in so much shock, i couldnt believe i had just given birth and also how heavy she was. Looked over at OH FOB and he was crying his eyes out bless him.
I didnt have a very nice day afterwards though as i was being sick every half hour and could hardly walk. But by the afternoon i was Eating and walking again so was let home
