So, lo just doesn't sleep through very often and the past few nights she has been up 3x per night!!

I took her to get weighed before and discussed this with the hv who's advice was a little shocking!! She asked what lo eats so I said a weetabix for breakfast, she said 'does she finish it?' 'Yes' 'well give her more!' I have 2 weetabix for breakfast, I think that's a bit much for a baby! So she suggested supper after her bath, tonight she ate about half a weetabix before bed!

My toddler had some too, she thought it was great but was asking why we were having breakfast before bed!!

I'm willing to try anything so fingers crossed this gets me a longer stretch of sleep!

Xx

Don't wanna sound like a dickhead, but aren't they a food for 1yr+? The fibre is really hard on a little baby's system.

It worked!!!!! Lo slept until 5.45 and I feel fab after a full nights sleep!!! Hope it wasn't a fluke! Xx

No it's fine for them, from 6 months they can pretty much eat anything x

my lo is waking in the middle of the night too. ive posted a thread about it if you want a look at the advice i got :flower:
i think i might try the weetabix trick too though!
just a question, my lo is on three meals a day, so do i swap the last meal for weetabix? or give it after his bedtime bottle? so that would be the fourth meal?

I wouldn't listen to that advice from your hv
If your baby wants milk at night that's what they need. Feeding stodge before bed to force them to sleep longer has never sat right with me.

I wouldn't eat something like that just before bed

Thank you. I don't class cereal as stodge though, I feel that the waking was habit rather than her actually needing a milk feed. Most babies will take milk if its offered and I trust my motherly instincts.

My lo doesn't eat big meals so adding an extra one makes sense. I never ate big meals as a child and always had a supper of cereal or toast so she's just like me xx

Ill take a look! I gave the weetabix after her bath as an extra meal, then she had some milk too. I'm going to try porridge and toast too! Good luck xx

Yeah my LO has weetabix - it's fine it;s low sugar and low salt - we are told they can eat what we eat. He loves his weetabix. When I started weaning my LO he went to night wake ups and wanting loads of food. instead of gving 2 weetabix I give him one and then half a banana or even a whole one if he wants it. I mix a bit of baby rice in with his fruit purees to fill him a bit and I give him natural yoghurt with fruit in which fills him up. I also do lentils in his dinners. We're getting there - he did wake for a night feed last nigth but he;s been ill and he took 8oz so was obs hungry!

I do the baby rice in purées too! I think my lo is a grazer because she just won't eat much in one go. Little and often works well for her xx

I'm awake waiting for lo to wake!!! Giving her supper really works, 2 nights in a row makes me think its not fluke that she's slept through!!

Thats brilliant, can I just check, Finn normally gets his tea at about 5.20 and then his bottle about 6.30 and then bed so when should I give him the weetabix, I will try anything at this stage to get him to sleep longer than 5.30 am!!! x

I do tea at 5, bath, weetabix and then milk at around 6.45 just before bed at 7! Last night she prob only had 4-5 spoonfuls but it was enough to keep her going.

Good luck, I love weetabix now!!!! Xx

I tried my Lo with weetabix this morning thinking he'd love them, they didn't go down well, refused point blank too open his mouth after a few spoonfuls. I did however give him a reduced sugar rusk before bed last night and he slept from 8.30pm til 3am!!!! (which is HUGE difference too his usual 20 wake up calls and 2 too 3 bottles a night) he had milk at 3am, he then woke at 5 and I just put dummy in and he slept til 7.15am. I felt soooo refreshed this morning so I defo think a little bit of something helps them too sleep better. And he only ate half the rusk. I will be defo trying it again tonight xx

I'm glad you got a little more sleep! I think that if they sleep better after some food when they have previously been waking numerous times for milk it proves that they're hungry and milk isn't enough! I'm going to try toast tonight, the hv said that anything that they would usually eat so rice cakes, yoghurt etc just so that they have a little something in their belly xxx

I used to give my toddler porridge fr supper, usually when going through a GS or getting more active. Helped immensely. Pls ready brek is well fortified to help.
I will do the same with Alex.

I have ready brek in the cupboard! I'll put it on my list of suppers! Xx

well i tried the weetabix, he didnt like it lol!! might try it tonight again though. i think il make it a bit more milky. i use warm milk btw do you?

and to the poster who called weetabix stodge, i dont think its stodge, its just a breakfast cereal, like porridge. i have often eaten weetabix in the evening cos its warm and filling. especially in winter months! plus weetabix is good for you, it has fibre and b vitamins.

My LO initially shunned weetabix now he loves them. I have to use quite hot milk as by the time its soaked into the weetabix and gone nice and mushy it's cooled down loads also he only likes it with some fruit mushed in as well to sweeten it (I'm giving it at breakfast so I'm quite happy to bulk it out with fruit).
