Though I would post, the start of this journey. I am on CD1 tomorrow having not caught again this month. I got my blood results the other day from tests that were done in April after my first miscarriage. I requested them having been previously hyperthyroid and treated with Thyroxine.
I noted my TSh was within lab range but still high at 3.64 I've done mountains of researcha and most fertility specialists are saying a range of between 1 and 2 is most appropriate for conception and pregnancy maintenance.
I have been feeling shocking for I don't know how long and put it down to ...pregnancy, no sleep, breast feeding, then two losses but now I think I'm still underactive without a very high TSH I actually think I have anithyroid antibodies which might be attacking my embryos too.
Anyway Ive been in with my doc for an hour today and wrote down all my points, my symptoms my low BBT first half of cycle, my heriditory connections and previous hyperthyroid problem and hopefully he will put me on meds. I had the blood tests so should find out Thursday. I'm going to take Baby aspirin too and lets see what this cycle brings. Ive also contacted the hewitt centre in liverpool and checked what I need for first consultation so I am armed for thursday.
I hope I'm right. I will post my results and next visit.

I thought once u were diagnosed with an under active thyroid then u always had an under active thyroid? Im under active and have been for years and im on Thyroxine for life. i just get yearly blood tests to check my levels.

Yeah hun a high TSH is an underactive thyroid:flower:

I have a TSH of 0.1 and managed to get preg, although it was harder to conceive than in the past. Can you see your endocrinologist and see if treatment can help?:hugs:

According to the most recent guidlines you are hypothyroid - on the old guidlines you would have been called borderline. Many doctors are not up to date. I would try to get on meds as there is a connection between under active thyroids and fertility/miscarriages.
Get the test for anti-thyroid antibodies as well - if you have those - selinium helps.

I totally agree CedarWood. I only found out i was hypothyroid after tests for my two mc;s. It was thought both by the pre-conception specialty nurse and the endocrinologist that the under active thyroid was most likely the reason for my mc's as nothing else has even been flagged up - and research does show that pregnant women with un diagnosed hypothyroidism had a much higher risk for mc's than those with out this problem.

Also, as you correctly pointed you many doc's are unaware of the general guidelines for hypo and ttc which does say much lower levels are needed that in if you are not ttc. In fact, in the US several medical associations, endocrinologists etc, would like to see all pg women tested - but hey, ho. If you cant get that the least we can do is to be proactive ourselves.

I too am now on meds for life and will be monitored strictly as soon as i get pg again. I shall even up my dose until i get seen (20% extra is all you need apparently to be safe) until you bloods can be tested. Seeing as the first few weeks are imperative, there is no way im gonna wait until 8 weeks etc when it might be too late..but i have some way to go yet, lol! I.e. getting pg :)

Good luck, hun!

Oh, and you might wanna change the headline as it says hyperthyroid..which is vastly different, lol! :)

Unless, thats what you meant but that would we confusing with your results....

Hi Yes Hypothyroid!! Saw doctor hes put me on 25mcg which I dont think is enough but i have another blood test in a month this test my TSH was 2.45 lower but my T4 was only 14 so the thyroid output is low. We shall see! I started Baby Aspirin, self medication yesterday Day 1 and evening primrose oil which Ill only take upt to ovulation , I have prenatels and Im going to buy selenium and zinc after and flax seed oil for latter part of cycle. I have a day2 Hormone Profile today, and unfortunately its a 3 month wait for semen anylysis so were trying to get it privately and then I am paying for a fertility specialist. Iam still waiting for the antibodies result Im sure its going to be positive. Ill speak to another doc then mine is away for three weeks which might be a good thing I nearly thumped the cocky monkey yesterday!

What i found with having an under active thyroid was that my prolactin levels were raised which is connected to the thyroid. I had my thyroid tested when i was referred to the fertility clinic and it came back that my levels were lower and prolactin raised. They upped me dose to 125mcg and then me prolactin settled itself. MY FS told me that was a really good sign as prolactin can be dentrimental to fertility

Thanks for that. I got the result on the Antibodies and thats negative so just waiting for the hormone profile will call again tomorrow, Intersting what you said about Prolactin.... What is the range for that? Indeed what are the ranges for all the hormones ie prolactin, progesterone, fsh and lh? If any one knows?

hello,
i just came across this forum.. i was just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting pregnant?
i was just diagnosed with high tsh levels for ttc. i have level 3.64 and they say should be below 2.5 for healthy pregnancy.
i'm now on levothryoxine..
i am 39 and am hoping for a 2nd child.. i've already had 2 miscarriages in the last 8 months.. so this time i opted to get tested before i try..
i'm kind of losing hope but i'm trying not to..

I know of two girls on here who went on to have babies and and both were hypo. In fact, when one was diagnosed she had crazy, really high levels which with medication came down and she became pg not long after.

Hope that helps and good luck! :hugs:
