Hi girls,

I am TTC our first baby and am day 5 of no smoking. I have smoked for 6 years, started when I was 15 (why oh why do we ever start?! :dohh:)
My Husband has never smoked and hates it, nags me all of the time, my asthma is becoming increasingly worse and I hate how much it costs.

My Grandad died September 2013 of Cancer (non smoking related) but he was my best friend and bought me up and seeing him deteriorate and waste away before my own eyes scared the hell out of me. I used my grief as my excuse to carry on smoking for the last year and a half.

We have been TTC since start of July last year so heading to the 7 month mark, I have recently been diagnosed with mild endometriosis after having a hysteroscopy & laparoscopy. This has finally given me the kick up the butt that I need to stop using excuses and get my health as priority.

Anyone else giving up or successfully given up care to share any tips? I've never smoked indoors, always outside so I am not missing going out in the cold but certain things trigger a craving such as I did a full house clean today then automatically thought I'll make a coffee & sit outside with a cig then remembered and wham the craving kicked in, scoffed some coconut biscuits to try and take my mind off it but don't really want to be replacing one bad habit with another! :help:

Also meant to add I am allergic to the patches and the spray & gum makes me gag so nicotine replacement isn't an option :(

GOOD FOR YOU!!! I quit 5 years ago and it was probably the best thing I ever did for myself. Patches, gum, etc....useless. Best way to do it is gradually cut back. Using aids that have nicotine in them just keep you addicted. If you smoke 10 a day cut back to 5 then 3 then 1 then 1/2. Pretty soon you'll be like "Smoking this 1/2 cig is so stupid, why am I doing it??" And you'll just quit. Breaking the habit is the hardest part. I drank coffee when I REALLY craved a cig. I'd suggest tea though because that much caffeine is not good. Teecino is an herbal coffee substitute that still gives you that little "jolt." Start by not smoking after meals. Try and wait an hour then just smoke 1/2. It's making little changes gradually that will get you there! At least that's how I did it.

I am also ttc #1 and trying to quit smoking. I have been unsuccessful in the past with the patches ... Chantix was rather helpful but upset my stomach and increased my anxiety to the point where I had to stop taking it. I actually quit for the past month and bought a pack again recently (stupid!) due to some added stress with changing jobs. But I will try again after this pack ... Will be tapering. Good luck to you! Hopefully we can both quit successfully!

Thanks for your advice girls.

amalonettc good luck to you & best wishes for trying to quit. It's so hard but I still haven't caved and feel like it's getting easier each day that goes by.
