I just finished my first cycle after stopping bc. My luteal phase was only 9 days. I o'd on cd 14. I am now on cd 1 again. Did anyone else have a short LP after stopping bc? And did it increase in time?

Hi!

I'm currently 3 months off of the bcp and my first two cycles were 29-26 days, and last month it was 19 days which completely shocked me :( So I guess mine went a little backwards, but right now I'm cd 15 (think i ovulated cd 13/14) and am feeling like I wont be starting as early as I did last month or will get my BFP *fingers crossed!*

I read somewhere that if you have more than two short cycles (less than 21 days) in a row than it could be a hormone problem, but no need to worry about that unless it happens again :) I hope you get your BFP this cycle!

It can take time to regulate after bcp. If it doesn't get longer after about 2 months I would speak with your dr.

Thanks guys! I feel better. I'm hoping it doesn't happen again . My Temps are a little low so I'm questioning hypothyroidism also. Keep me updated ruby when you test! I wish you luck on your BFP!

Hi Bribri,
Any update on this? I think I'm in the same boat. This is my first cycle off BC, and I'm on CD20, and still no O. My OPKs say that I'm getting close though. I'm expecting a short LP, since all the times I've been off the pill, I had normal-length cycles. Thinking about trying B6 vitamin to lengthen. Have you heard of this?

Angelbride,
I think you might just take a little longer to get back to jormal. I read many women do not ovulate the first cycle after BC or if they do it may be late. I haven't finished my second cycle yet. I am an CD16 now so I'll let you know as soon as it's done. I haven't heard of the b6 helping. I take prenatals maybe I should try that too.
How long were you on BC?

Bribri, I was on for 9 years. And 9 years before that, with a one-year break in between. hope I didn't mess myself up :( :( I'm CD 21 now--still 'high fertility' but no O.

I heard that taking 100mg of B-6 can lengthen your luteal phase by a couple days or more. But you have to take it along with a B-complex to balance out all the B-vitamins, and you should take them in the morning, because they could possibly keep you up at night. I'll see how this month goes and maybe give it a try.

Angelbride,
I was on BC for 9 years also. This is my first time off of it since being a teenager so I'm not sure how my cycles are normally. I'll definitely try the B6 thing next month also. And don't worry even if you O late in the cycle your LP should still 10 days or more. You just might have a 38 or 40 day cycle which is not unheard of when your cycles are trying to get themselves back to normal. Update when when you ovulate.
