For those of you using BBT as one of your methods to track your cycle/ovulation, how consistent is your "base" temperature? Since I have been temping it goes up down up down, every other day, all over the place. Is that normal? What have your experiences been ladies?

Could you put your chart in your signature or link to it?

Post your chart so folks can take a look. Some things you may want to try if you aren't already doing these things

-temp vaginally, vaginal temps tend to be more consistent
-if possible temp at the same time every night after 3 hours of sleep
-remember to try and move as little as possible when picking up your thermometer to temp and during temping

Sometimes i have weird temps, I tend to have a poor sleep cycle which throws things off. Keep on temping for a few months, many women who have poor sleep cycles are still able to see a noticeable shift in temps after ovulation.

This month my temps have been really crazy, but I'm blaming it on my sleep. More than a few times I woke up at 2 or 3 and temped then since my alarm goes off at 4. A couple of weekend days i slept in till 6, so my temps were way higher than norm those days. Grain of salt...I checked cm this month and was woken up by O pain (@2am wth), so at least I had the O date correct...hopefully won't need to temp anymore soon!!

Cookieb have you used the calculator that can work out what your temp would have been if you took it at the right time? If you google 'when baby bbt calculator' you should find it. I use it 2-3 times each cycle

I have not, only because FF recommends against it. I am confident of my O date though, and did plenty of BD'ing leading up to it, so I'm OK with the chart looking a little crazy. Something I will start doing though is if I wake up before my alarm goes off, I'm just going to start going back to sleep instead of looking at the clock and getting the thermometer (I am always able to fall right back to sleep - I think a train passing by far off is what wakes me up). Also, my thyroid med was just changed, so I could just be adjusting. Got a decent temp drop today, (at 3:20am) - hope it's right back up tomorrow.

Just wanted to add, that I spent a bit of time looking at all sorts of charts and there is really no rhyme or reason to so many of them, preg or not. The only really common theme to preg charts was an upward trend that kept continuing from the beginning of the cycle to the end of charting. Trying to keep this in mind to keep myself from worrying about it...

Mine tend to go all over the place as well. A bit more stable this month though. questions I have immediately are: do you temp the same time every day? Do you temp the same way every day? Do you wake up a lot throughout the night? Do you drink (temps can be higher after having alcohol the night before)?

Yes, every morning at 6.30am. Occasionally I'll wake up at 5-5.30 and I'll temp then.

Yes, orally, under tongue, left side.

No not usually I might wake up in the night once or twice a month. If they are way out with the temps I've been having I'll just add them. If the temp is way higher or lower than expected I might discard it or note it.

Yes I still drink. I don't really have big nights though. I don't really notice much difference in my temp between when I've drunk the night before or not.

Some of your temps are really low. Have you ever had your thyroid checked? If so and it was "within range" do you under eat or over excercise? Both of those things can slow your metabolism down. My temps are low too, but I get up at 4 (and on thyroid meds).

I've noticed that mine was more jumpy when I drank ore. Last cycle I had a lot of drinks related activities and it was all over the place. This time, it's been less and my temps haven't fluctuated as much. Also started working out again. Anyway, the other thing I'd suggest is if you need to temp next cycle to start temping vaginally if you're not squemish about it. It gives a steadier reading. Just don't start now mid-cycle because vaginal readings are going to be a bit higher on average than oral readings so it will throw your chart off.

Yes ice had my thyroid tested, both antibodies and tsh levels and all was normal. Nope I don't over exercise or under eat either. Any other possible causes you know of?

I'm waiting to see a gynaecologist so I'll ask
