I'm overweight - last June I started working out and lost 30 lbs (still have a way to go but a good start) over the Holidays (mid november) I stopped working out.....Jan 1 - I started back at the gym. I mostly run- I know losing weight is good for fertility in the end- but losing weight while TTC- can the workouts be too tough on the body and make it difficult to make a baby?

That's exactly my question! I'm scared to do too much at the gym thinking it'll do more harm than good. I hope we get answers :) I'm gonna follow if you don't care. :)

Exercising while TTC and while pregnant is excellent! I would definitely start now, before getting pregnant so you can continue on while pregnant. You actually increase your chances of getting pregnant by getting to healthy BMI.

I spoke with my doc about this. Excessive exercise is not good, like people who run crazy long distances and stuff like that. Other than that mild and moderate exercise are good! I was JUST thinking today about cracking out my Shaun T DVDs and getting my butt in gear!

Thank you BrittRashel & 2ducks

That's pretty much what I've read- don't do excessive exercising. Right now I run about a mile a day and walk another 2.75- ish miles.....so nothing extreme but I am out of shape and I took that time off during the holidays which set back my stamina and endurance. So I think I'm ok

i am a runner and stopped running since o .. i just wanna run! i miscarried while runnign... i was told that wasnt the cause, but i am so scared
i do not run less than 5 miles

Good question, my doc just said when I get pregnant I'd probably want to stop excessive exercise, like bootcamp, but didn't seem overly concerned, and just told me to make sure im walking regularly while TTC.

I am very off and on with the gym, looking to get back this week into weights & running, but it's also O week so I'm worried I'll push it too much. Confusing!

Exercise will not harm ttc or cause miscarriage. Maybe...MAYBE..pushing too hard for your abilities. But I know a group of women who are ttc and other who are pregnant who are doing Hammer & Chisel from beachbody. I start this today as well and I am in my tww.

I was so fit last year despite being obese. I did a 10k at the end of 2014 and then in May of 2015 started TTC full time with femara. I stopped working out because I was so scared of miscarriage. I got pregnant my 3rd cycle but miscarried anyway. But it's been hard to get out of the rut I put myself in.

So now I am getting back into it. miscarriages are usually chromosonal issues in the very very early stages. As you get along you just have to modify. Eventually you won't be able to do push ups on your toes, then eventually you will have to stop those all together.

BTW: I had a friend who was a runner and she got pregnant and continued to run until her 7th month when her belly got too big.

so get going now. Get your body used to working out and you should be able to continue on until 3rd trimester assuming everything else is fine. Oh, and exercise keeps your blood sugar steady and will minimize the risk of gestational diabetes.

2ducks (and anyone else): I have a thread going in the weight loss section about beachbody buddies. Anyone who does a program can come in and get/stay motivated to continue on. Heck, anyone can come in and join!
