Hi Ladies.
I'm just after some advice really. Here's my story in brief:
I fell pregnant with my daughter on the first attempt of trying. Have now been trying for 18 months (well to be honest, We haven't been trying for the last 3 months) as I was diagnosed with having PCOS.
I also have a dermoid cyst on my left ovary (this is not causing me to be infertile) but I needed to lose weight before they'll even consider helping me with infertility because I need to have this dermoid cyst removed!
So, 2 months ago I was given 120mg orlistat (slimming tablet) because I'd been dieting since April but had come to a stand still.
In the first 4 weeks of being on it I lost 8lbs. I'm due for my next weigh in on thursday but from April to date I have lost over 3 stone.

My doctor told me IF I lost 5% of my body weight my ovulation would probably kick start, which it hasn't! My doctor also said I don't qualify for Clomid, because my partner and I already have a child together!! I don't know what else to do!....
I have also just stopped working night shifts which I have worked for the last 3 years, do you think this could contribute to PCOS??
I'm desperate to have another baby and it doesn't help when people say "well you've already got one, so you should be grateful for that!"

Any advice on TTC with PCOS or things I can do to help get pg or get rid of PCOS are much appreciated!

Thanks ladies and good luck to you all.x

Hi there,

I just wanted to reply to you and say that I also have pcos, not had periods for years and I am currently pregnant with baby no 2!!

I had been trying to get pregnant with my first for a year and the doctor prescribed me metformin and I am sure that helped me to ovulate and i used opks and caught the first time.

This time round was much harder! I weighed more as never really lost the weight from my first pregnancy and it took me nearly 2 yrs to get pregnant. I am not sure where you are from but I am in the uk and was told that I could be given clomid even though we already had one child. I also have a heart condition so the specialist said she would only give me 50mg of clomid which was the lowest dose and if that didnt work then I would need to move onto IVF! We tried the clomid and it didnt work!! I was gutted and the IVF would have cost a fortune so I decided to take matters into my own hands and I ordered the clomid from abroad and decided to take a higher dose of 100mg. I did this for the 5 days and used opks and I did ovulate on it, I also used pre seed which I think helped and I had booked to start accupuncture and as it happens my appointment was the day after I ovulated and so she focused on the ovaries and making them warm for the egg. I really think the combination of the pre seed and acupuncture was the reason that I got pregnant and so far have stayed pregnant (currently 31 weeks).

Hope that helps you in some way, good luck and lots of baby dust xxx

Thank you so much for your reply and for your words of encouragement!

I'm from Dorset. I will be seeing my GP on thursday so will ask her what I can do about my PCOS and if I can try alternative things like metformin...However until I have my dermoid cyst they advise me against getting pregnant! So i'll speak to her and see what she says. To be honest I've only been to this surgery a few times as we've recently moved to the area, but so far I'm not happy with their service!

I think if I don't get anywhere I will take matters into my own hands and just order Clomid from the states!

Thanks again.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and delivery!..x

Hello Ladies

I had my first fertiliy appointment today they confirmed what I have long suspected that I have PCOS. We have a 21 month old son and have been trying since Jan this year. I was warned when my GP refered me there would be a limit to what they would do for me and they confirmed today that I could have clomid and IUI but not IVF.

I assume your GP hasn't refered you to a fertility specilist?

I would be tempted to ask for a referal to a specalist either for fertility help or to a gynologist to find out why your cycles are random. I gave my GP that option and she opted for a fertility specilist.
You could also ask about going as a private patient through the NHS. I'm sure I googled and it can be purchased from various pharmists for less than £50 but you have to have a prescription.

Did your doc note why no iVF?

The reason why no IVF is because I already have a child. I can full support the policy. I know some find it harsh but in a fair world nobody would ever have a problem.
