Hi all,

not sure if this belongs here or in TTC so I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place :dohh:

I was diagnosed with PCOS at the end of last year, my suspicions rised when I was bleeding non stop give or take two days for around two months. So following a scan I was diagnosed with PCOS and I was prescribed the pill.

Me and oh have decided to start ttc this month, as much as I'm excited, I'm worried at the same time. I know my doctor wont prescribe me any medication to help with TTC (although me and oh tried previously for almost a year before being diagnosed) but do you think my doctor would be willing to prescribe me something that could help regulate my periods? Just so I'm not stuck bleeding for months. (sorry tmi)

I'm booking an appointment with my doctor tomorrow for Tuesday next week, just wondered if anyone could share some advice because I'm far too impatient lol!

Thanks for any help in advance  x

welcome hun, i also have PCOS also, me and my partner have been TTC almost 3years. after a year TTC we were refered to infertility clinic and give clomid which is fertility drug, it would be best to talk to your doctor who should refer you to the right clinic. if there is anything else can do to help feel free to contact me x

hi there is femara a drug? dont you need to get a prescription and dignose before getting anything like this?

just read the post you posted and it says about high risk of birth defect etc, its a cancer drug, its need banned it alot of places and pretty unsafe, i would advice anyone who is using it to only take it after getting it from the doctor, not sure the benifects out weigh the risks if taken unprescriped.

Yes I have a prescription for femara, it's really something you have to talk to your doctor about, I take femara on cd 2-6 and because it clears your system By the time af ends there is no chance for birth deffects.. That's y it is really important to do lots of research, and from what I found if used properly it is safer than clomid... Femara is a brand name for letrozole and letrozole has been used for a long time for infertility without any side effects .
And all it does is lower your estrogen to help your egg mature on the 5 days u take it, once you stop taking ur egg will continue to mature on it's own, and ur mature egg means ovulation... And maybe a bfp
I like it and will continue to use it until I get a BFP!

Hey ladies, thanks for the replies and advice!

I visited my doctor and I was advised to be trying for atleast a year (again) before they prescribe me any drugs and she basically left it there. I guess it's the only option I have for now.

:dust: to you all xx

hey hun thats crap you are being left for some long, i found that angus castus help me with my PCOS and helped me get pregnant with my son even though i have sever PCOS :D

does the pill help regulate your period? it helped mine. if he won't give you meds to help you conceive try maca and soy isoflavones. i've heard great success with these. i'm not sure what to say about the period regulation...like i said the bcp helped with mine and i've heard of people using a cream (progesterone???) to help them to get a period....i'm not sure how to stop yourself from bleeding so much...though i'd try the Maca...as it has really helped balance me right out (hormonal balancer...all natural root veggie)
Just some ideas, hope they are helpful

seriously...i wish i new about soy isoflavones last year when i was told to try for a year...cuz i may be pregnant by now....try them!! they work just like clomid!!

I went to the docs when we first started ttc, as I had already been previously diagnosed due to irregular periods etc. when I was a teen. That's the response I got, 'go try for a year'.. well I'm impatient basically, I gave it three months, and I didn't ovulate have a period or anything in that time and got fed up. So I went to see a *different* doctor (a really nice registrar, I'm sure it was partly due to the fact he's a registrar that he was so nice) who said he would compromise and send me for some blood tests to see if I was ovulating.. I also told a little white lie and added on a couple months to how long we'd been ttc! which showed I wasn't ovulating, and he sent me for a scan which just reconfirmed I had it really, after that they were willing to refer me to a sub-fertility clinic.. my first appointment is this thursday.. so basically *crossing my fingers and praying to God* I will have been waiting 6 months, (from beginning ttc)

to sum up, if you get fed up of waiting, like I did, my advice would be to bitch & moan until you get what you want, see different doctors, lie if you have to, at the end of the day you pay god knows how much tax and are entitiled to treatment for a life long illness you have to live with  don't let them fob you off
(sorry for the essay!)
