I have had an upset tummy for a few days now and have not been able to eat much at all. I have had bad diorhhea which has also affected my diabetes. The thing is since being ill my dd has been almost permanantly latched on and I am exhausted too. She has just been weighed and has lost an ounce in weight!! I'm so upset by this!!

Does the tummy bug affect my milks ability to fill my daughter, i.e is it less nutritious? I have started eating better the past 12 hrs and she seems to be settling a little easier.

Am I being paranoid, is it normal for a baby to be happy and content 1 day and then next day seem starving and suck for England or is it my milk!!!

Well your body does need a healthy, balanced diet and plenty of fluids to produce the finest milk I guess and if you don't have as much energy to function then it may have been reflected in your milk or maybe you were (unknowingly) feeding for shorter times so she wasn't getting as much hindmilk as usual. Or maybe she's having a growth spurt and the extra energy has been used to help her grow. What space of time did she lose an ounce? Remember a full nappy weighs more than that so don't worry too much. It's what they gain overall that matters....like in a fortnight etc not in a few days. You know yourself you can gain 4lbs from one day to the next but it's due to what's been eaten and excreted:blush::dohh:

It is just a tummy upset though and will pass....not much consolation when you're sick and feel like crap I know babe:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Don't despair babe....you're doing sooooooooooo well:hug::hug::hug:

Thanks hun. It was 4 days she lost the weight over. On Mon she was only feeding for about 10-15 mins then sleeping happily for 3hrs and I thought we had finally cracked it but since tues morn she has been almost constant. I got 2 hrs sleep last night and I think that was only because she was si tired she just passed out!!

So I know she is getting the quantity of milk as she has dribble every time she falls away. So I would only think my milk isn't as calorific but I dunno and the mw only suggested topping her up with ff
