Has anyone used these in the past and how did it turn out? They seem like a good idea in theory and claim to keep the meat moist without basting (I presume you open the bag near the end to crisp up the skin) but does it beat the tried and tested method of putting butter under the skin and basting often?

I wouldn't use them if you will be using your turkey juices to make roast potatoes or gravy because you can't really use the stuff that stays inside the bag.

The chicken ones are good though, but I prefer nice gravy over crispy skin

I usually buy M&S turkey gravy because mine is always a bit hit and miss lol! So I'm not too bothered about wasting the juices as long as the meat itself comes out nice and moist - I hate dry turkey! I wasn't too bothered when I thought it was just us for dinner but just found out my brother and SIL want to come along with my parents, so now I'm feeling the pressure to get it right :haha:

I use them they are good and I am a gravy cheat I use bisto and all the veg water and juices get thrown into a jug with it and man it's great lol

To be honest though I also have a large casserole dish with a lid which we use to cook meats in.....it's even better...for a tenner as well you can use it over and over again...

Ohh and also I found out the hard way those bags have a maximum temperature on them...I was cooking lamb in one once and was in a hurry and well it sort of exploded.....went bang and everything lol

That definitely sounds like something that would happen to me!
