Hi team,

I quit drinking coffee in the first tri, but I've slowly started drinking it again. I'm currently trying to get through a busy time with work and moving apartments and I really feel like I need two cups of coffee a day! My doctor said it was OK but I guess I'm worried I'm going over my 200 mg/day limit. I brew my own French press. What do you think?

:coffee:

I'm the same as you, coffee lover who didn't have any coffee for 6+ weeks. I'm having it again but sticking to half-caffeine and decaf to be safe. So I often make a large mugful of half-caf in the morning with my french press, and then have just decaf after that. Or I mix them so that I can have two large mugs with some caffeine in them.

I was extra careful in first tri and now my caffeine ha gone up too. I didn't even know of caffeine limits in previous pregnancies but now that I can tolerate chocolate again an a hot brew I've been making most of it. I think 2 cups of coffee isn't so bad as long as everything is going ok touchwood.

I also figure that if I just drink two cups exceptionally this week and go back down to one after it can't be all bad, can it?

I think you're probably totally fine, especially if your definition of a "cup" is a real cup, as opposed to a monster mug.

I would think that most people who drink soda (or ice tea!) throughout the day don't even THINK about how much caffeine they're ingesting, and a few of them is just as much as of few cups of coffee.

I think as long as you're conscious about it, then you're actually ahead of the curve and doing right by your baby and body!

I have 1-2 cups a day. I actually went off coffee for about 20 weeks. I was so happy when i could stomach it again. I only put half teaspoons in when i make it at home im not using my expresso machine. If i have a take away coffee ill just get a medium size :)

I was a coffee addict before getting pregnant but went off it completely in first tri due to nausea & sickness, started having it again the last couple of weeks but im just having decaf, I switched to decaf tea last pregnancy too and have stuck with it, I prefer them to normal teabags now. The decaff coffee tastes good too, not much different to the real stuff

I have 2-3 a day and dr said it's just fine!!

I decided not to drink caffeinated. Sometimes when I am super tired or have kidney pain (I have a kidney infection) I drink one to feel better.

Generally what convinced me to cut down from 8 to 0 was new research that suggests the guide lines aren't safe enough, outdated and also natural health experts that explained other ways in which caffeine can be harmful.

In the second trimester I don't fear the miscarriage risk anymore, but knowing that caffeine affects a baby about 10 times as strongly as me and raises his heartrate makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't want him to feel how I would after 10 cups of coffee...I don't want his heartrate to be affected. Decaf tastes just fine and as a former caffeine addict I can say it is totally possible to live without a caffeine boost.

In fact I feel much better and more energetic without caffeine in my life.

I'm thinking I should look for this research, I don't even think about caffeine at all and just drink coffee as usual.

I cut out coffee completely but I'm one of those ppl who can't stand water while pregnant , so instead I drink sodas or iced tea, which has minimal amounts of caffeine each cup, but after 4 a day I've probably reached the limit.
Chocolate also has caffeine, but it's minimal enough that I don't feel bad indulging.
I've recently been craving a hot morning beverage so had chai latte which I'm sure is as much caffeine as coffee...I feel fine doing that at this point, really

Love coffee and hate decaf. I limited myself to like one or 2 a wk in 1st tri-only if i was out in a cafe and switched to decaf tea for when i was at home.as i dont really notice the diff in tea. Now im back to having one a day but i use one shot of espresso not two these days. Still iv cut out diet coke which i used to be a terror for so overall my caffeine's way down. I think as long as you're not drinking lots you're fine or like you said if its a crazy wk and you have a bit more than usual.

TBH, my last pregnancy, I never knew I was pregnant until almost my second trimester. ( I was like a few days shy of my 2nd trimester). I drank ENERGY drinks/Caffeine pills/thermogenics/etc ( I was in my serious gym days), every day, and sometimes 2x 3x a day. I was a caffeine junkie! >.< My daughter turned out fine. I did cut it out, as soon as I found out.

This pregnancy, i found out much sooner (around 3-4 weeks) and I only drink coffee now. I cut caffeine my entire 1st trimester and I felt like I was gonna die. lol. But anyways, I slowly introduced coffee back in my life in my 2nd trimester, i have a large coffee mug sized cup every morning and most of the time I don't even finish it.

I'm not sure If i was just lucky my 1st pregnancy or maybe it just don't really affect them as much as they say but I would say your definitely fine. :)

I have a few quotes saved on my other IG account if you're interested. It was hard to find but I researched it bc o fmy Chemical that I had while still drinking 4 cups of coffee a day. Sometimes I wonder.
