Hi ladies,
Our little man was due on 10th December, I started getting some signs at the end of November so thought he was going to be early, how wrong was I? It all began on the evening of 18th December, wasn't really having any major signs so me and OH decided to go out for a brisk walk on the evening of 17th December to see if we could get things moving, later that evening when we got home we BD'd and hoped for the best.
At around 2am on 18th December, I started getting horrible pains and pressure in my bottom and was going to the toilet a lot with BM's. I tried to rest as much as I could but these pains were getting the better of me and I just couldn't get comfy, I had some paracetomol but they didn't even touch the sides! I ended up ringing the Maternity Assessment Unit to ask for some advice and see if they thought I needed to go in to get checked, they asked if I could possibly stick it out a bit longer at home and see what happens rather than going in just to be sent home, I agreed as I would have been very upset if they sent me home. We didn't get any sleep that night and the pains were getting worse and more frequent, we started timing them and they eventually got to about 4-5 minutes apart. I rang the Maternity Assessment Unit again and told them that these pains were getting unbearable and they asked me to go in.
We arrived at the hospital at around 7am, did the usual routine of doing a urine sample etc and the Midwife did my blood pressure, temperature and listened to Tyler's heartbeat and all was fine. She asked me to let her know when I had a contraction so she could make sure Tyler was ok throughout it, which he was. She asked me why I had been advised to go in so I told her that I had been contracting all night and the pain was getting unbearable, she said I didn't look or sound like I was in labour so I thought oh great, we are going to get sent home...anyway, she did an internal and to her surprise, I was actually 3cm dialated!! She was just as shocked as I was!
She transferred me to the ante natal ward to see wether I was progressing and if I did then they would send me to the Delivery Suite. We had our own room so it wasn't too bad, the Midwife brought me in a birthing ball so I could stay active as that's what I wanted, ended up pacing up and down the corridors a few times as I was in that much pain. They checked me at about 5:30pm for dialation and I was 4-5cm's and they were just waiting for a bed to become free on Labour and Delivery and then they would take me there. I had only had paracetamol and co-codomol by this point. If I remember rightly, we were admitted to Labour and Delivery at around 7:00pm. The contractions were getting really intense so I ended up just walking around the room and keeping active, bending over the bed or cabinet in agony with each contraction. I got checked again around 9pm and I was only 6cm, I was in agony so I asked for some more pain relief as the Gas and Air made me sick after a couple of puffs! They gave me an injection in the top of my leg with Diamorphine, within 20 minutes or so the contractions eased a little and I could relax a bit more. They kept checking me every 4 hours to begin with, by 1:00am I was begging them to check me again as the pain was excruciating and to our surprise, I was 9cm! Woohoo!! The Midwife said she would have a go at breaking my waters to try and get to 10cm, she gave it a good go but couldn't feel them bulging or anything, it turned out my waters had already broken at some point but I never felt any gush or trickles etc, I had a lot clear jelly discharge though so maybe it blended in with that! They checked me again an hour later to see wether I had reached 10cm's but I appeared to be stuck at 9cm's so they had to give me a drip which I think was Pitocin to get my contractions going nice and strong. They intensified in pain and I actually ended up crying and begging them for an Epidural, they did say at one point that I could have one but I kept saying no as I didn't want an Epidural from the start so I wasn't giving in!
They strapped me to a monitor to keep an eye on Tyler's heartbeat as I was stuck at 9cm's for so long, I kept moving with the pain so kept losing his heartbeat on the machine, I had to keep moving from my back, to my side to try and get comfy but I just couldn't! My body ended up automatically pushing as I felt a lot of pressure in my bottom, the Midwives kept saying don't push and breathe through them but I couldn't, she kept asking me wether I was pushing and I kept saying yes, she kept looking to see wether she could see Tyler's head but I guess she couldn't. Each time she checked me and I hadn't progressed, I burst into more tears and was begging for it to be over, she checked me one last time at 6am I think it was and she said we could start pushing, yipee!
Can't remember the exact time I started pushing but our handsome little prince, Tyler James Wrigley, was born at 7:13am on 19th December weighing 9lbs 10.5oz. OH cut his cord and he was given a bit of oxygen as he was a bit stunned but other than that, he was absolutely fine and we had some skin to skin as the Midwife delivered the placenta, she struggled but got there in the end. Daddy got to have cuddles whilst I got stitched up as I had a couple of tears and a labial tear (teared upwards instead of downwards) ouch!
Hope I haven't missed anything and if you have read this far, I hold my hat off to you. Thank you for reading. Love our little Prince so much

*EDIT* Forgot to mention, the tears were that bad that at first they thought I might have needed an Epidural for them to stitch me up, luckily I didn't need one though, it just stang a bit. I would have been so upset if I did need one as I had just given birth without it!![Wink ;) ;)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
