Hey is there any other type 1 diabetics on here? ive been diabetic for 15 years, me and my boyfriend want to try for are 2nd baby, my first child was not planned and i ended up having my son 2 months early by c-section due to complications with my diabetes, id appreciate any advice as i had a tough time in my first pregnancy.

its only my first pregnancy ive been diabetic for 15 years too. i was told to get a1c down to 6.5 for 3 months before you try take 5mg folic acid. also just look after yourself exercise eat well. good luck

Hi, I am 25 weeks pregnant with my second child (I've been diabteic for 19 years)- neither of my HbA1c results were great before getting pregnant (either pregnancy) though this is obviously the ideal (first child was not planned and I fell pregnant with the second sooner than I had expected so it hadn't had time to come down enough.

How old is your first child and what problems did you have in your first pregnancy - I have found my second pregnancy far far more difficult than the first but every pregnancy (even for us diabetics) is different. There are certain problems that WILL reoccur and others that may or may not reoccur.

I struggled far more with low sugar levels this time and if you battled last time I would plan on making sure you have help to keep your toddler safe - I was comatose a lot with a toddler wandering around the house unsupervised (luckily it is safe inside our house) High blood pressure needs to be watched and you must be prepared to watch the sugars a lot and keep adjusting while still looking after a toddler - make sure you have a lot of support!!!!

Kidney and eye troubles need to be looked at before you start the pregnancy so you know what you are in for - luckily I do not have those problems. Make sure you have a good gynaecologist who is willing to work with an endocrinologist and an endocrinologist who realises how important your baby is to you and knows that you are dealing with two children now (once you fall pregnant) and that both are important.

Good luck with ttc.

I am 27 years old been a type 1 diabetic for 6 years now this is my second pregnancy but I wasn't doing pump therapy during the first one so I had poor control of my diabetes I have had an HbA1c test done in a very long time. I'm just wondering if any one else has the pump and if so is it working well for you during your pregancy. I'm scared to death because I want nothing more than to have a happy healthy baby with the love of my life and enjoy the great things that come with being a mommy. Just wanted to get some more info I've spent hours googling information about being on the pump and being pregnant, I haven't even gone to my first doctors appt and am already terrified I won't be able to have the baby. If anyone could help that would be great.
Thanks :-)

Hi I am not on a pump because they will not allow us to have them where I live due to the expense. I believe though that you can get much better control when on one. How far pregnant are you. If I were you I would try the site www.diabeticmommy.com as there are many people on there using pumps successfully while pregnant.

For now until your first appointment just try to keep a tight control over your sugars and keep records. Good luck with the pregnancy and hope you can get the ehlp you need to keep things stable.

Hi all.
Ive been diabetic for 13ys now. Just gone onto the pump so hoping to get blood sorted before 2012.
I knuckled down when i was on injections but suffered badly with hypos.
Im hoping to go to the pre conception clinic because i dont want the hypos and i need more help with the pump tbh.
I have eye problems but thats constantly being checked and always have protien but nothing has come of it.
Goodluck with tt. Im sure everyone in here will help with any questions xx

Hi..I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 2 years ago today! I became diabetic when I was 6 months pregnant for my daughter. Luckily she was not affected, as they were not sure how long I had it before it was detected. She was perfectly healthy and weighed 7lbs, 11 oz..so no huge baby!! I will have an insulin pump in my hands on Monday..and have an appointment to get hooked up next week. My Diabetic Clinic I go to has been very supportive and I have had 4 days of pump training.I'm nervous but excited to finally be able to get my sugars under control. I am also very fortunate to have coverage (pump costs $7000.00 and the continuous glucose monitoring system costs $700.00 and then the cost of ongoing supplies)...thank God for medical plans!! My doc said my A1C should be between 6-7..it was 12.6, 6 months ago and is now down to 8.1. I eat well and I am active but have a hard time with my sugars. My DH and I are ttc but are taking this month off until I get my pump hooked up and my levels tweeked. Good to know there are other Diabetics on here for support.:hugs:

Pink I see you are going to start ttc in 9 months time - good luck with it then and getting everything well sorted out with the pump.

Dee have you got your pump now and when will you start pumping? Good luck with that - hope you can get it well sorted soon.

My next growth scan is tomorrow and I have a feeling this baby will be measuring even further ahead than last time - she seems to have had a very big growth spurt, but I guess I will see tomorrow - she was 1 week ahead at the 24 week scan and weighed 730g. She should be well over a kg by now and possible even closer to 2kg depending how far ahead she is - so much growth in less than 5 weeks.

Hi i hope i can sort it before the 9months. Going to see the diabetic midwife probably feb so they know i want to sort it out. xx

How is everyone doing now? I am heading for 31 weeks pregnancy now and my sugars have started to dive again - I had to drop my insulin a lot this morning and still landed up going low (levels 2.3) so I am a bit concerned. Unfortuantely most of the doctors are on leave at the moment - I believe that lowering sugar levels can be a sign that the placenta is aging so would need to ge this checked out but we have public holidays here til Tuesday and the doctor I did speak to who is on emergency call just told me to go in and get baby checked if movement stops but movement always stops when I m low and starts again as my sugars rise. (When I told him I was a type 1 diabetic it sounded like he wanted to groan - as in not deal with this) And I need someone who can check the placenta so on Tuesday I will have to try and get an appointment.

It seems pointless to go in to the maternity ward if they will not be able to check what needs to be checked. My blood pressure is still fine but have been having a tremendous amount of Braxton Hicks contractions - have been wondering if so many contractions could be causing the drop in sugars also.
