How could he catch a cold in August? He's been so healthy all summer, and now with a 2.5 week old baby he has to bring home a snotty nose?!:growlmad::growlmad::growlmad: Any tips on how to keep it away from the newborn? I've been washing my hands religiously, but he gets his snot everywhere! I am breastfeeding - any hope that this might help keep the germs at bay for her?

I'm afraid it's almost impossible to keep it away. My dd got sick when ds was two weeks old and he got it. Thankfully it wasn't too bad and didn't last long. It's inevitable that number two is going to get sick earlier and more often initially. But, at least when they start day care/kindergarten/pre school they won't get as sick as number one did when starting!!

My son had four colds in the first nine weeks of my daughter's life, and despite tandem breastfeeding (or because of it?!) neither she nor I got any of them.

I just made sure I washed hands religiously, tried to keep them separated as much as possible, wiped down shared surfaces (like door handles etc) once a day, and kept my son's face wiped.

Poor OH was not so lucky, he got them all!

I was ill with a nasty cold when I gave birth and the week after u had caught it off my daughter my lb never got it I never did anything to prevent it.xx

i dont think you can really. when i brought ds3 home ds2 had flu. within days it had passed to ds1 and dh and then unfortunately ds3 got it really bad xx

There isn't much you can do. My ds2 got chicken pox when my dd was 6 weeks old. Luckily she didn't catch it, perhaps because she is breastfed. It's just one of those things though.

I don't think you can. my breastfed 2 week old caught a cold from my son and another at about 9 weeks old. There are a good few things you can do to help of baby does catch it though!

My then 2 year old caught a cold and sneezed on my 2 week old! He caught it and wasn't Happy bunny! I knew it would happen at some point but was a bit gutted he was so young. Still, he got better quickly at the time.

wug did you manage to prevent baby getting the cold hun/ xx

I think even with the best will in the world all it takes is one sneeze/cough to spread a virus. DD2 caught quite a few colds from DD1 when she was younger, despite being breastfed for the first couple of months.

My 3 week old has caught a cold from her 2 year old brother. Horrible to see her so snotty and congested. I don't think there is much you can except normal hygiene prevention and hope for the best.
