Hi ladies,
I've been prescribed 100mg clomid days 2-6. I have one blocked tube but ovulate on my own every month. It seems like a high dose to me especially since I Ov already. Plus I'm not being monitored. She just gave me the pills and sent me on my way. Is this normal? I know in the U.S ladies are monitored closely but I thought I might atleast get a scan to check I'm not over stimming? Any thoughts?

I was thinking the very same thing. I was recently given 4 months worth of Clomid & sent on my way  I've heard of loads of people being monitored while taking Clomid but I was just told to come back in 4 months time.

Same... it seems a bit irresponsible to me. If something were to go wrong you wouldn't really know until you had full blown OHSS...

I was given a 1 month prescription for clomid and was told i would need to go back on CD9 for an ultrasound and then every 3 days or so after that to track my progres.

xxx

My GYN just said, ''if you get pregnant within 4 months great, if not then just come back'' no word of scans or anything.

ha that sounds familiar! mine actually said "good luck" lol
in honesty as long as the clomid works I would take any side effects gladly. just want to get a baby at the end... or 2 ;D

interesting! can i ask whereabouts you are in the uk?

My thought exactly kitcatbaby  I've had no side effects so far so hope it stays that way lol

I'm in Canada and my GYN prescribed me 50mg umonitored but he stated this is the most he prescribes without monitoring. 100mg is a pretty high dose, I would ask to be monitored.

Hey sorry didnt see this until now.

I'm south east in east Sussex. It looks as though different trusts do things differently. Xx

Hi my gp prescribed me 50 mg as I was obj laying already- he wanted to increase my chances! After 3 months I had to go back to him. He then prescribed me another 3 months. All unmonitered. I did ask about it but he said "we know you're ovulating already so don't need to". I went to a fs after (gp referred me) and they said the gp shOuldnt really prescribe that! She also said that they like to prescribe it and send me for scans to check progress! So ladies, push for a referral and not clomid unless you are having ovulation probs.

Yep, I had 6 cycles unmonitored, my last cycle now.

I was given 3 months, and only told to go for a 7dpo progesterone blood test on the first cycle, then sent on my way with a good luck and see you in antenatal clinic!

Then I went back obviously because I was not pg yet and was given another 3 months, all unmonitored.

It does seem to be the norm here in the UK, unfortunatley.

Thanks for all your replies ladies. I'm thinking I'm going to try the 3months unmonitored and if no luck ask for the other 3 to be monitored with scans etc. I'm just such an unlucky person that I'm bound to overstim or get OHSS ;) I always worry about medical interventions but surely something has to work?! Best of luck to all of us ttc for the long haul x

Hey hun im in the UK and moving on to my 4th cycle of Clomid. On my second cycle I overstimulated on 50mg and had my dose reduced to 25mg. Please be careful and if you feel intense pain go straight to A&E. I am being monitored with weekly urine samples that I freeze and hand in the four samples over the cycle. They seem to be able to tell a lot from that. 100mg seems a lot to be starting you on!! Best of luck!! xx

Thanks for sharing! This is what I'm afraid of. What kind of pain should I look out for? Xx

Hello!

I was exactly the same, I was previously seeing a fertility specialist in essex who gave me 4months of Clomid and a pat on the back with "see you in 4 months" with no monitoring (I ovulate on my own).

However, during the first cycle we moved back home to Sheffield, and I immediately went to see my GP (who just happens to specialise in fertility problems) to organise another referral to a FS up north (never move while TTC, biggest pain in the arse EVER!) anyway, she was horrified that I had been given Clomid without any monitoring, she double checked with the Locum consultant there and he agreed that I shouldn't be taking it with no indication that there are any problems with my ovulation

I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad or make Clomid and FS seem like the devil, but her exact words were "These bloody specialists palm Clomid off on woman who don't need it just to be 'doing something' and it can often do more harm than good" need less to say I was advised to stop taking it and wait to see another specialist in Sheffield, as they have a very renown infertility department apparently!

Mind you, I still have 3 months worth sitting in the drawer which I will have to make OH hide from me before I go a bit TTC crazy!

That's the thing isn't it... I know they want to seem proactive but is prescribing ovulation stimulating drugs to somebody who ovulates already really worthwhile? The way she sold it to me was that its better to try the clomid than do nothing at all and it will strengthen my Ov and make my eggs stronger. I just don't know what to do for the best...

Who prescribed the clomid? was it a FS? Are you in Scotland? Did they state why they are starting you off on such a high dose? I think you should consider going back and asking for some form of monitoring whilst taking it. xx
