I have a question to all the UK ladies whose DP's had an SA done.

Do you remember what the test was called? and what exactly they tested for?!

Reason I ask is this:
DH did his last thursday, It was called a "Sperm Count"

The results are back today and all we know at this stage is that it's Normal - No further action required.

We are going to see a GP on Monday who hopefully will have further information. But I am going crazy now wondering if the "Sperm Count" is a full SA - or just the count of quantity rather than quality...!:dohh:

This is driving me mad! I would hope that they would look at quantity, motility and shape/etc

So any experiences from you ladies would be much appreciated!!!!

Hey Maria! How Are You??
My DH results got back today :) All Normal!
The doctor called it Semen Analysis, morphology, motility and something else I dont remember! Probably the count!
I cant see them doing just one you know I would have thought they would just do them all at once hun!!
Gp letters sent to start clomid next cycle for us :)
How long did it take for you to get prescribed the clomid after they said you could have it if u dont mind me askin?? xxx

Hey Maria

I'm pretty sure it will be tested for the lot - a bit strange how they called it a count when I'm sure the terminology is SA but I cant see them not testing it for everything with a SA

Good luck and keep us posted

x

Hi Maria,
I would expect that it would be for the lot. When we rang for hubbys results they said it all seems normal but that the gp would explain it all. When we saw the results it was the whole analysis; count, morphology, motility, volume etc

fluffy xx

Thanks ladies! Going to see the GP on Monday really hope she'll take us through the complete results!
Hopeful1 - I got the Clomid from my private gynaecologist. Our GPs do t prescribe ( a mid Sussex thing) so to get it on the NHS would have meant mo this of waiting ! so I went to a private Dr
Good luck, hope you get the Clomid soon!

Good luck maria, we also went to doc where he explained them so if he says it wasn't SA then at least you can ask why they weren't done, and then ask for them.

Good luck, I'm sure it will be fine

X

Thanks Maria, I got confused when I was there on thursday as the specialist said my Gp would prescribe me the Clomid once she recieved the letter off him saying to do so, and to call him the day I take it to arrange an ultrasound... but I have seen loads of people on here that said the same as you that the Gps wont prescribe it etc.. and when I handed my sheet to the secretary I saw a 'decision pending' box ticked?? So was thinking if I have to wait more than a couple of weeks, just doing the same and going private!
How much are the initial costs for Clomid when you go private?? xxx

Well, you'll need an initial consultation which will set you back about £100-150. Then the Dr will need to have access to your medical records to be able to make an informed decision about Clomid. Mine said he needed to see blood test results which I had done at the surgery and they just faxed the results to the private Dr. But there was a 2 months wait for the ultrasound (to confirm PCOS) so I had that done privately. That was £124. The private prescription isn't much more than a normal prescription. So alltogether it was about 300. I was then taking opk's and my BBT to confirm ovulation and then asked my surgery for progesterone test.
On the 3d cycle I went back for follicle tracking scans which were £124 each and a follow up appointment with the Dr which was £94.

So it's not cheap but it's not totally unaffordable as costs are spread across several months.
