UK- New fathers to get months of parental leave from 2015

For those in the UK. Thought this might be of interest.

I think it's a good idea but can definitely see some absent FOB's in the future really taking advantage of this. God, can you imagine? You take maternity leave and the absent FOB tries to also claim months off with pay too - too much of a temptation for some of the more selfish ones.

Hopefully, as they say at the bottom of the article, there will be measures put in place to prevent this.

they will have to prove that they are expecting a baby just like the mothers do, if you dont give them the official proof they wont be allowed it, i.e MatB1 form, also i dont think it will be allowed to be claimed at the same time as mum, its one or the other so if mum is already claiming maternity the dad wont be allowed.

Awwh I think this is a good idea, for the genuine FOBs. My oh got months off uni with me, and it was amazing for our son to bond. X

Indeed - Hopefully the idiot Dads have to take in some kind of proof.. Im sure they would, as we do! x

I think its a good and bad thing, bad because the bad fathers can take the piss and get paid for time off they don't deserve..I think they should only get it if they're living together/married and the fathers on the birth certificate. Any father that doesn't live with them doesn't see them everyday anyway, and isn't losing any sleep, but for the genuine fathers living there being kept up all night they can't use the 'you do it I'm working tomorrow' excuse to get out of night feeds and is a great benefit to the family bonding and support wise x

dont you remember the post i wrote in the summer about my fob taking his? he was off when i was registering lo and he refused to be on the birth certificate. it shocks the life out of me
