I'm watching a show we have here called "The Mom Show" and today they have this pediatrician on there who is already seriously annoying me, he has recommended ibuprofen for every tiny thing...which I don't agree with lol. But just now a mom asked how the best way to wean her baby off breastfeeding would be to avoid getting mastitis. And he split it into 2 questions...the best way to wean in his opinion is to call her mother on friday say we will be there that day and come back on Monday and your baby will be weaned!!!!!!!!!!! :dohh: I mean seriously???? First why would it be her mom's thing to deal with? And how much worse could you make it on the poor baby, just fully deny them, take them from their mom and comfort....yeah I just don't agree. What does everyone else think??

^ ya no kidding! The longest I leave Jasmine is a couple hours with my OH or My mom... no way I could leave her for a whole weekend under any circumstances, I think she would have a meltdown.

A whole weekend crying out for Mum and breast when that's all the baby has known. Actually makes me sick thinking about it :( Horrible that someone will think to follow his advice.

I know I thought that was just awful and on national television, who knows how many moms heard it today trying to figure out the "best" way to wean their babies :( Oh and his tip for not getting mastitis was to take more ibuprofen, I swear he said the way to fix like 4-5 things for babies from teething to fussy was medicine and then for moms too.

hahah ok, ibuprofen wouldnt touch mastitis! I have tylenol 3s with codein that I took when I was engorged and I still hurt like hell.

How funny, I was going to watch that, actually recorded it because I was interested in what the advice for teething was.

Oh I'll tell you...ibuprofen. I actually wrote the show about the teething necklaces then kept watching and saw the breastfeeding stuff and was just in shock so if they write back I'm writing about that too lol.

I forgot the guy also said he has never heard of a baby refusing to nurse from teething and that what his wife did was the first time she got bit she said "ok I'm done I'm doing bottles" ok fine if that's what you want to do..but way to promote breastfeeding from a pediatrician. It all made me so mad

I used to really like that show...but I find the pediatrician they have on gives nothing BS for advice!! My doctor is pretty bad about the ibuprofen! Tells me to give it to LeeAnne for EVERYTHING :dohh:

she got a bit what?

Haha sorry I didn't finish my thought, Mark called right in the middle of me writing. She got bit when her baby got teeth while nursing, he said she got bit once and said "ok that's it I'm doing bottles" and switched so he has never had to deal with a baby refusing to nurse while teething and has never heard of it as a pediatrician either

Seems very mean... plus theres no way my mum would be up for that!! She's had her five, shes only up for a bit of cuddling here and there!

I think it disgusting and the thought of being so cruel to baby is just awful :hissy:

 thats barbaric!! i mean, common sense, whats the baby going to do the minute it finally ssees mummy? cry for boob and try to get it!!

Who knows....we got lucky and our pediatrician was very educated on breastfeeding but sadly so many aren't...he's obviously one of them

I think you should write in and complain, I mean that is just terrible advice! :grr:

I hate that show... and your right what terrible advice... I can see some moms though thinking this is advice from a dr it must be ok, what a nightmare!!

I love my family practitioner! She is amazing about breastfeeding. Plus she knows both of us really well. Thats one thing I like about family practitioners instead of pediatricians.
