Just thought I'd put something together.

Since being diagnosed as a diabetic, you kinda get very anal about food.
It gets easier after time, I sometimes feel almost borderline bulemic.

Due to insulin which makes you hungry anyway, and too much taking your blood sugar down, so makes you then eat. and junk eat at that.

And afterwards feel really guilty.

BUT.... anyway, I thought I'd put a few words together on foods & packaging.

I'm no dietcian, no expert, this only comes from experience and lots of talks/arguments with consultants and dieticians

WORK IN PROGRESS

Diet's don't work. Period.

Our bodies have been designed from creation to seek and eat as much high carbs as possible, ie. sugar/fat.

When we where cavemen we didnt know when our next meal came, so our bodies evolved in storing what we didnt motabolis as fat.

Women are more FATTY than men more for the reason to do with there ability to bear young.

Men store fat in different places to women, i,. stomuch first and formost,
women, bums, thighs.

So when attempting to loose your large bum, your less likly to loose it there if at all.

Some races of women are more endowed in the buttocks area.

ALSO being large/fat is also seen as a sign of wealth and health in some cultures.

size zero women generally are not regarded as healthy/fertile and buxom women more so...

So...

A basic fact is

CALORIES IN + CALORIES BURNT = WEIGHT

If you burn more calories than you consume, you loose weight,
If you burn the same ammount of calories that you consume, weight stable
If you burn less calories than you consume, your weight rises.

SO Maths 101,,, reduce your calories... you loose wight.

Well not exactly.

Our bodies burn a certain ammount of calories, for men its 2500 a day women 2000.

When you STOP eating, or eat LESS calories, your BODY thinks its starving (remember caveman) and what happens is that your body then stores EVRYTHING you eat as FAT.

So the trick is to

1> DONT STARVE
2> Dont go far faddy diets as you will crave what your denied
3> EAT little and often

3 full meals, 2 snacks, and lots of water.

Sometimes when we feel hungry is because our body cant tell the differance and its actually thirsty, when you feel thirsty its too late your all ready dehydrated.

So next time you feel hungry... Drink a glass of water and wait 20 mins.

So, are your eating 3 full meals a day and 2 snacks?

If you can calorie count, do that, either way a balanced diet is great,
a mix of carbs/protein/fat/veggies/sweet

Remember the old school dinners

meat a 3 veg, sweet (apple pie and custard)

fine...

EVEN if you where to eat 2500 calories of macd's in a day

from a weight loss POV as long as you didnt sit around, you'd be ok.

The point is you'd have less food if 2500 cals of macs

than say home made food and veggies

so you get stuffed and dont over eat.

so packaging.

what does it all mean... First of packaging is a very tricky thing.

They can NOT lie, but they can play around with the truth.
BTW even the facts and figures on packaging is NOT 100% accurate.

heres a few tips

LO FAT = no fat but high in sugar
LO SUGAR = no sugar high in FAT

CHECK the actually facts on things rated as lo fat/sugar
========================================================

CARBS what are they, carbohydrates/starch/sugar are all the same they are form of energy that are bodies use.

Sugar is more easily converted into energy
Carbs and starch are broken down into sugar then into energy
Carbs and Sugar which isnt burnt off is stored in the body as FAT !tadaaaaa

hence why you need to cut down on your carbs.

so, if on a packet it says

carbs 60g
of which 10g is sugar

means that there is a total of 70g of carbs, that is food that will be burnt or stored.

but 10g of that is immediatly used as energy

so what about

carbs 40g
of which 20g is sugar

means that the total carbs is ONLY 60g of carbs but 20g will be available as energy

The second example has a HIGH GLYCEMIC index, which means you get a buzz and energyu quicker and would have less calories but you would feel hungry soon

The first has a LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX so the sugar is more slowly absorbed and lasts longer but probably more calories

Also check how they have rated it

200 calories? Per pack Per serving ? per HALF pack ? Per 100g

but Generally: in per 100g

no more than (or as low as possible)
10g fat
10g sugar
as low a salt as you can 1g

another little trick

EAT as big a breakfast as possbile, lots of carbs
this kick starts your body and gets your motabolism going so you can burn energy better

Then eat smaller and smaller through the day

The old addage:
Breakfast like a king
Lunch like a prince
Dinner like a pauper

eating your last meal no later than 7 (as your body wont burn carbs off)

dont eat late night

keep off cafiene, it dehydrates and makes you hungry

OH eating sweets occasionally and after a meal is FINE
dont knock yourself out for breaking your good habbits
One slice of cake is fine

anyway

hoping this may have helped in some way or other

happy eating

oh and chocolate in proper quantities is good for your body and makes you feel good !

anyone interested in diabetic eating tips please ask
