So after 25 months of ttc we have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility and because we aren't entitled to anything else our journey has more or less ended. The consultant prescribed me with 6 months worth of Clomid, I felt like he'd handed me £100000 this is our last chance and I so hope and need it to work.

I was confused cos thought clomid was for people who didn't ovulate but I'm still hopeful! Afte that it's ivf if we can find a spare 6k

Yep I'm in the exactly same boat as you.. This is the forth month on clomid and it did increase my progesterone level even though I ovulate on my own and fertility specialist wouldn't give me clomid I had to beg my doctor, but I've just had all my blood work done again and I'm going to have mot test done in a London fertility clinic they do 3d ultra sound scan of the uterus to see if they can see anything un towards and other tests aswel after that we only have ivf aswel and I've been trying for over 3.5 years!!

hi sarah, good luck with the clomid - they do give it to people who already ovulate to produce strong ovulation.
have you thought about egg sharing, can reduce the cost of IVF to between £400-900 depending where and who you go.
We have been TTC for 2.5 years and are waiting for an IVF referral, as fortunately we get one on the NHS, but if it fails will be doing egg sharing, we are also unexplained
good luck

I'm on round one of clomid even though I ovulate normally too! It definately produced a stronger O, and so far my symptoms at 8 dpo are indicative of a higher progesterone level (didn't do bloods this time around so I can't be sure). I'm not sure if this is available to you, but here in the states you can do Intrauterine Insemination for around $300-$600. My insurance doesn't cover assisted conception either, but IUI is definately within our budget and much cheaper than IVF. I'm going to try talking my hubby into doing it if he can get past the whole "not natural" thing.

Did they give you any reasons as to why you can't have any other treatments other than Clomid?

I know in my area you can't be over a specific age or have previous children, but other than that, you can get further treatments presuming you are in the correct criteria i.e. not severely overweight.

Egg sharing is a great opportunity though for many.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I already have a 7 year old daughter so I'm not entitled. I have looked into egg sharing it's £700 which is great but it worried me slightly because apparently if your egg produces a child, that child then has the right to know who you are, I think that would freak me out if the child decided to come look for me does that sound awful?

My doctor said they don't do iui because he said that clomid has the same success rate as iui which I found odd xx

Also the clinic I enquired to they do more thorough tests for people with unexplained, at a cost. Thinking about that too but no idea just how much x

It does sound a little odd. Clomid and IUI have 2 totally different purposes. Clomid is used to cause ovulation or make it stronger...it only will fix an ovulation issue. IUI can help if you don't have good cm or if hubby has a sperm issue...it has absolutely no effect on ovulation.

If anything, clomid dries up you cm and would cause you to need an IUI. That's why so many people do IUI on a clomid cycle.

I am going to look into that privately, I'm still convinced my cm has a lot to do with it and have suspected it for a while. I don't think I have EVER gotten ewcm xx

One thing you might want to try is fresh royal jelly and bee pollen - it is said to be nature's clomid. I got pregnant with my son whilst taking it after 20 months of trying. It gave me really great cm too. If you look at the forums on fertility community.com there are loads of women who got Bfps when taking it whilst waiting for IVF.

I'm not taking it whilst trying this time as I've now got lpd, and it doesn't seem to help with that. Some women on the thread did take it with fertility meds so I may be tempted to try it on our last Femara cycle next month if this one doesn't work.
