Is this okay? I know some people say no.. And others say yes! If you do, how long is warm enough to offer to LO straight away? I find the whole jug of hot water to long when you have a screaming baby waiting for food. Ive also given LO bottle at room temp, but he seems to enjoy it more when its warm. Thanks x

Hi i use the microwave. Just be sure to shake the bottle really well after you have heated to get rid of any spots in the milk

We use the microwave as my midwife said it was fine to, but yeah make sure you give it a good shake. Waiting for a bottle to heat up/cool down in water with a screaming baby feels like the longest 10 minutes in the world lol :coffee:

Officially your not supposed to because it makes heat pockets.

I use the microwave and like others I shake it real good. But I just put mine in long enough to knock the chill off.

I personally don't use it as I'm afraid of the hot pockets. I use a bottle warmer though and it works great.

I use it, even though it's frowned upon...I hate giving it to her cold and I premake my bottles since she eats so often LOL
I warm it a little bit, take it out and swirl it around, then check the temp and either feed it to her or heat it for a few more seconds

They say you shouldnt but I used to heat mine just enough to take the chill away and shake well. That way I figured any hot spots would be more like 'warm'

Another option could be premaking with a bit less water and adding boiling water when LO wants a feed.

I use the microwave too... I just mix the milk really well afterwards to remove and hotspots, and then check the temp.

I do only if he's screaming his face off and can't wait for the bottle warmer.
other than that, I use the bottle warmer or make it with Gerber Water that sits at room temp.

We give our formula at room temp., just boil water and let it cool. So glad i don't have to faff around heating it up x

I think you can. I know many who do. Personally we just never heat bottles. Both Fin and now Mops have milk at room temp. Zero faff xx

I don't see why not as long as you give it a good shake and test before giving it to baby. my ds likes a warmer bottle too, but i make them up fresh so never really have to warm them up but always cool it down.

I've never heated bottles up,i think it can ruin them. I always use luke warm water.

I take it out the fridge and put it in for 30 seconds and give it a really good shake after to disperse any hot spots. If she has a carton, she doesn't mind that straight out the box at room temp

i premake all my bottles in the morning and put them in the fridge (add the formula when he's ready for the bottle) and i just bong the water in the microwave for 20s... it's so much easier when you have a screaming baby rather than waiting for water to cool!

ah if you know when your Lo is due a feed though you can have it ready for then :)

For the mommies that are giving their babies bottles at room temp - I thought you weren't supposed to do that because it won't kill the bugs in the formula powder? I'm confused! I'm planning to FF this baby but it'll be my first time FF from the start so I'm not sure how it works :) Thanks!

There aren't any bugs in formula per-say. It's that formula isn't able to be "sterile" so it is advised to use boiling water just in case. However so much care is taken when processing formula that bacteria residing in it is unlikely. Using room temp water goes against guidelines but I weight it up like this. I KNOW my baby will get very upset and distressed if she had to wait for me to boil water, wait 30 mins before adding formula, make her bottle and then wait for it to cool each time she needed a feed (It's also completely unrealistic to do that in the real world, especially one with a toddler too). So I weigh up the definite result of her getting extremely upset and distressed with the very unlikely result of her getting a dickie tummy. We all have likely read about how negative it is to let a baby CIO, due to the effects long term crying can have on them. Letting a baby cry long periods to wait for food is the same for me.

I've done room temp now with both and was able to ensure neither had to really cry for a feed. I'd know when it was due and be able to have it ready straight away, even at night.

Though, as a Mummy, you have to weigh up things yourself and make your own choices based on how you prioritise risk etc. There's no right or wrong really. I've spoken to MANY health visitors and midwifes who have ALL given their own suggestions on how to prep formula and not one was to follow the guidelines to a T xxx
