NOTE: If you are going to try and talk me out of vaccinating, save your breath. Its not what im asking and you wont change me opinion.

My little one is getting over a bad virus. Had a fever last wednesday for one evening. Tested negative for the flu, clear chest xrays, etc. She definitely improving but has a harsh cough but fever hasnt returned since almost a week ago. She is due for her first shots on Friday morning...

What would you do? Ive already delayed once for her being sick before, Im afraid of getting her too far behind. Would you delay again? Do it as long as she didnt have a fever?

I just went through this. My daughter had an ear infection when she was supposed to get her 12 month shots so I chose to delay because her fever had broken literally the day before she was due for them and she was still on antibiotics (and the first antibiotic she was given she had an allergic reaction to). She was still a mess and not eating, drinking, or sleeping well. The days leading up to her appointment were so horrible I just needed her to feel well for a bit... for her sanity and mine. When the next appointment came she had croup :dohh: The office recommended I vaccinate that day anyways but she was so miserable that I cancelled and rescheduled for the next week. She was fine by then and had her shots. She ended up getting them a month late but it doesn't really throw off the schedule for the next round. I made my decision based on what I would do if it was myself in that situation. I wouldn't want to get the shots if I was already feeling miserable so I am not going to make her.

I would delay them, as well, if it were me. You can still do the regular appointment, and then just reschedule to come in for the shot portion at another date. That shouldn't be a long appointment if all they have to do is administer the shots, as the rest of the appointment will have already been done. I think I had to do that once with DS2 when he was a baby.

I would delay. My son had rsv when he was supposed to get his but we delayed it and got his twelve month shots at 15 months, and 15 month shots at 18 months.

I'd delay ... in the grand scheme of things a week or two will not make a huge difference. My LO's vaccines were delayed because he was very ill with a uti. Once he was fully recovered I just let him have them then (think it was a 3 week delay) and then just added the 4 weeks for the next lot again ... these were delayed again for a week because we were away.

I would definitely delay until he feels better. Shots make them feel tired and a little crummy sometimes so I think its best to have their immune system at 100%. :)
Just took my 2.5 month old to get her 2 month shots today. We are a few weeks late because I was scared to take her in tight when all the reports said the flu season was at its peak. She has been tired today.

I would delay. Our pediatrician doesn't allow vaccines while ill.

Well, I guess I'm the only one who would go ahead and do it.

All our vaccines are done through the health unit in my area, not through a GP. I remember calling to see if it was okay to bring my son in even though he was sick (it was a cold) and they said it was fine to do it while he was ill. BUT I'm pretty sure it depends on which vaccines baby is getting and what sickness they have, so I would call the doctor or health unit and ask if I were you.

Either way, I hope your little one feels better soon. :)

I ummed and ahhed about taking DD2 for her first shots as she had an awful cold at the time. I did some research and found that you're recommended to take them unless they've had a fever in the 24 hours prior to the injections. So I took her and she was absolutely fine, no side effects whatsoever. It's a very.personal choice though, you know what's best for your baby. For me, I felt more reassured knowing she was getting immunity to other nasty things xxx

I would attend the appointment and ask their advice - they won't give vaccines when there's a fever but coughs and colds are usually ok. It sounds like your lo is past the virus and just has a residual cough?

But it also should be ok to push it back a week or two. My youngest ended up about 3 months behind with his baby vaccines, because he kept being ill around the second set of vaccines and his schedule got pushed out.

Oh and I'd never try to talk anyone out of vaccinating their healthy children! I'm VERY pro-vaccination and get on my soapbox a lot at anti-vaxers lol

I would wait. If there should be a reaction I would want to know for sure that that is what caused a fever/reaction vs wondering if it was the illness coming back.
