I am currently 36 wks. i had strep throat a few months ago and the cough never fully went away. a few days ago i had a coughing attack and my lower left rib became very sore. this morning i simply lifted myself off the cough and felt a sharp, excruciating pain. the doctor says i have likely cracked a rib and there is nothing i can do for the pain except tylenol and heat. it hurts when i move, breathe, cough, etc. i really want a vbac, but am now wondering if i will even be able to push. has anyone experienced this? the alternative seems much worse - a c-section recovery WITH a cracked rib.

I'm sorry, I've never experienced this but couldn't help but cringe at the thought!! Owwwwwie! I hope you find a way to give birth that is at least a little comfortable for you, poor thing. :(

xx

I've never had a cracked rib so not sure of the pain but its possible labour will 'over power' it, If that makes sense. Also any pain relief you have will surely help the rib pain too. I'd maybe speak to your midwife and see what she thinks and see if she has any advice. Really feel for you though, Im just getting over a really bad cough and my bump was in agony with it, cant imagine rib pain too. xxx

I'm 37 weeks, and two weeks ago, something similar happened to me! I was coughing and coughing, and had that excruciating pain too! It hurt so bad that it knocked the wind right out of me, and I felt like I couldn't move! When I went to the doctor, they said I either pulled something or may have popped a rib out of place. I couldn't do anything for the pain either. It was horrible! I was out of work for 3 days, and finally the pain got a little better each day. After a week it was pretty much all better!

Good luck, and I truly feel for you! Hope the pain gets better soon like mine did. Keep me posted!

I have had a broken rib before & I can't even imagine giving birth with that as well , I would opt for a c- section if I were you !

In labour you can have all the pain killers you'd want :) but I'd talk to your midwife

bless u :( No idea but sounds horrible....hopefully it will heal soon and try and have lots of pain killers :) xx

I'm so sorry that you went through this, but thanks for giving me hope! Would be so great if this gets a little better with time....
