Hi everyone, this is my first pregnancy and I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place. I suffer from mild vaginismus. This is where the vagina involuntarily contract. Its unintentional and I'm not aware of it happening. To initially have sex can be a bit a awkward as it can be very very tight (tmi sorry) to the point where it can take a while to get things started. my poor OH. My question is will I struggle with a vaginal birth because I really want one but if I struggle with penises how will I manage to give birth? :(

Don't worry Q, the powerful contractions during labour will far outweigh the milder tension created by the vaginismus. As I understand it, ths condition is caused mainly by an underlying anxiety about sexual intercourse, and an inability to relax during sex. Giving birth won;t trigger the same anxiety, so won't cause you a problem.

Even if it did yOu won't notice any tension caused by it when you're in the full throws of labour, and the pain will certainly pale into insignificance in comparison. Your baby has to come out, and your body is incredibley efficient at doing what is necessary to deliver succesfully chick ;) x

Thank you for your reply! I've got secondary vaginismus as it was caused by a bad experience when I was younger. I've tried to speak to the midwife about it but she didn't have much info about it. But aslong as I can have a normal vaginal birth without it interfering, I'm happy :)
