Variable decelerations?

Hello everybody !
I have a question and would truly appreciate ur replays.I hope u don't mind that i've posted so many questions.

Can anyone tell me more variable deceleration?I recently had NST.It was reactive but there were moments when the HR dropped to 115 and went back in the normal range in few seconds.The doctor on guard wasn't concerned and said those are normal but i don't think he know about the possible nuchal cord (During my u/s few days ago I was told that my girl might have her cord around her neck,so i'm worried..A LOT!)
Are those decels normal?My baby's HR was 125-140 at those moments when it went down to 115.

when i had monitering my babies heart rate went lower than that so i think its ok
they like to see decelerations happening dont know why

Are you diagnosing the trace as having variable decels or did the doctor actually say there are decels. Any actual decelerations on a FH trace warrants observing/action. If the doctor dismissed as normal then I am sure it is fine. Thing is you may have heard the heart rate at both 125, 140 or 115. This can be actually normal. I am trained in interpreting FH Traces and if you are not it can be distressing hearing a heart dip when in fact it is probably recovering from an acceleration.

The baseline of your baby's heart will be between 110-160bpm i.e. the line in which the heart rate runs along. Then of course you will have accelerative periods where the heart rate increases above this baseline even as high as 180bpm during fetal activity but as long as it returns to its baseline. A deceleration is when the heart rate drops lower than the baseline approx 30beats below for approx 30secs or more (this varies between guidelines slightly). So a deceleration would be so if it dropped below the baseline at which the heart rate is originally running at. However, ask for the Doctor/Midwife/Nurse to interpret the CTG to you, I never have a problem with doing it for my patients.

Thanks for the replay.Actually it's me the one who interprets the FH traces.The nurse who saw it said it's all good but i was still worried to see the HR drops , especially when it went down to 115.
What u meant by "recovering from an acceleration?"? I did noticed that many times if the baby moves a LOT the HR would go sky high and then there would be no signal and it will reappear at 120 and go up in few seconds.This is normal as well and not considered as decels?
I would talk to my nurse/doctor the next time i go in for monitoring.

Sorry if this sounds rude, I don't mean to be, but do you mean that you are qualified in interpreting FH Traces when you say, 'Actually it's me the one who interprets the FH traces'. I am just confused that if you were qualified in interpreting CTGs then why would you questioning a trace on here etc. Sorry I am confused as you seem unsure for someone who interprets them. I am confident in interpreting CTGs and have to do this independently and have no doubt in my abilities. It is alot of responsibility if you are not sure.

As for 'recovering from an accelaration' yes that is what I was highlighting too. That the heart rate can go sky high above the baseline during activity of the fetus and return to the baseline. Very normal and reassuring.
