Hi girls.

My OH and I went to see the doctor today as the vasectomy reversal that happened in August 2008 doesnt seem to have worked. 2 sperm tests showed that there are no alive :spermy:

They have now refered us to the Fertility Clinic in The Royal Hospital, Belfast.

Not sure what to expect. Has anyone from N.I gone through the "system" here that can maybe advise?

Thanks girls

:dust: for all xxx

I'm not in Ireland, but just wanted to wish you success in your treatment. Do they know why the reversal didn't work? Is that something that can be investigated?

He had his vasectomy for 12 years so the chances of it working were small but the surgeon said that he'd do it anyway. He's had 2 sperm counts done and there is nothing in either of them

Doc has now referred us to the fertility clinic, gonna have to start my research :nope: I dont know anything about IVF/ICSI

:dust: xxx

Hi Sarah,

My OH had a reversal which did work but he had very poor motility, so we had to go for ICSI. If either of you have children already, you will have to pay for your own treatment im afraid. Im not really sure what will happen if your OH has no sperm, did your doctor discuss any options with you?
xx

Hi Sarah

I'm not in NI and have no experience of vasectomy, but thought I might be able to give you some info

My hubby has had 2 SA's done and no sperm found at all. They haven't been able to give us a reason why yet, and hopefully we'll find out more tomorrow

We have been told he just may not be producing it, or similar to having a vasectomy, there may be a blockage. He told us that when a man has a vasectomy (which my hubby hasn't but fits with your situation), there are still sperm being made, but they just can't mix with the ejaculate because of the blockage

In those cases (and hopefully ours) they can do Surgical Sperm Removal where they do an op on hubby and extract the sperm direct, before the point of the blockage

As whatever they get is 'precious' they prefer to do ICSI because it's not taking as many risks with the sperm - the difference being, with IVF, they put the sperm and egg in a dish and hope nature takes its course, with ICSI they inject the sperm into the egg to try and force the issue

Hope that's of some help to you hun and good luck xx

Hi, i'm in the same boat, my husband has just had a vr which has failed! I'm so disappointed! I also have pcos which doesn't help! I've got an appointment at the hospital in about a month so i'll let you know what they suggest if its any use to you!

No options discussed with doctor. We just told her our backgrounds and she is sending us to the fertility clinic. I thought ICSI may be an option because they remove it directly. Trying to get some info together so i sort of know what he/she is talking about when we go for our app.
Do you or your partner have children?
Hope your treatment works for your and OH xx

Yes my OH has 2 children so we had to pay for our treatment. We had ICSI because of the poor motility and it worked for us, I am now 7 weeks pregnant! It did take a year from seeing the doctor to us starting the treatment, it is a long rocky road but its worth it in the end!

Congratulations on your BFP obe. Whenever i logged off yesterday i thought about what i wrote and then realised that there was a BFP flashing in your signature, thought to myself - DUH and you said "treatment"

Hope everything goes well for you, i'll keep an eye on your journal.

When do you have your first scan? xx
