I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this, so please move it if it's not.

I'm pregnant with number 3 and due in September. My 2 sons were both c sections. My first was an emergency due to fetal distress and failure to progress, after about 2 days labour (7 hours active ) and after induction at 38+4 for babies health.

My second was a planned section, again at 38+4. I was really considering a vbac with him, as he was healthy, though in both pregnancies I had polydraminos (extra fluid) and they measured big. I also had a pulmonary embolism at 34 weeks and was put onto clexane and heparin, so my blood clotting needed to be controlled while delivering incase of haemorrhage. In those last few weeks leading up to his birth I bottled it and decided the c section was the safest option.

Looking back I wish I had given the vbac a go then, but now I am pregnant again I am really considering a vba2c. This will be our last baby and I really want to "experience" a natural birth all the way. I don't know if doctors support it? Has anybody got any experience or know anybody who has had one?

I'm on clexane again this pregnancy as a precaution and as long as baby and I are healthy I would like to at least attempt it. Do they let you go overdue after previous sections? I guessing if I hadn't gone by my due date then I would have a planned section?

I have ages to Think about it, I just like being prepared and weighing up my options. My partner is supportive of either decision which is a great help x

I don't know the answer to your query and expect it would vary depending on your Hospital but talk it through early with your midwife and consultant and get as much info to make an informed choice. Good luck :)

I think it depends on the doctor and the hospitals policy, but if you can find someone willing to do it and who has done it successfully I say why not. I know for me my doctor wasn't comfortable doing it for my 3rd pregnancy, just because of the chance of my uterus rupturing.

I'm hopefully going to attempt vbac with number 2 so slightly different, but they have said I can go to 41+6 in an attempt to go into labour naturally before having a c section scheduled. However, I am refusing to be induced as it puts extra risk of rupture. I think it will depend on your doctor and how the rest of your pregnancy goes. For me I had suspected pre-eclampsia so mine all depends on how my BP goes, but as long as you have no complications and have researched vba2c then your doctor should at least discuss it as an option with you.

Here there are no doctors or hospitals that will allow it, unless you choose to do a home birth with a private midwife, which in my opinion is too risky for me. It is probably different everywhere though, so if it's something you're looking into I'd ask around. They also will not induce for any vbac here. Good luck! :flower:

This is not correct, there are LOTs that will however, because of 2 csections you will have a fight on your hand. As for induction, they don't have much of a choice if you refuse a csection or induction.. Its common for doctors to say this, and say it in ways that take away women's right but truthfully you have a right to say no. Join the facebook group VBAC Facts. Trust me I have looked around here, and it's against the hospitals policies to allow a vbac after 2 csections here. I tried for a Vbac with my 2nd, and had to fight big time just for that. Now there's no option, unless you choose a home birth or birthing center, which after having a NICU baby it is not worth the risk to me.

I've had two c-sections already, and expecting my 3rd baby. At the beginning of the pregnancy, i was adamant I wanted a VBA2C and was prepared to fight it all the way. However, when I brought this up with my consultant he was very against the idea, and kept saying he wasn't comfortable with letting me have a VBA2C. I did put up a good fight, but I was loosing the battle so gave in and agreed to go with the elective section due to the fact that (according to my consultant) it's alot safer for baby. As another poster said, it will probably all depend on your consultant, as well as your hospital policy. I would definitely ask your consultant though, it's worth asking if it's what you really want!

Thank you all for your replies. I spoke to my midwife today who has said I need to talk the consultant about my choices but she did say if I am really for a natural birth I will probably be allowed. X
