Hi There, I am not pregnant or ttc as yet, we are planning ttc nearer the end of next year so I am thinking ahead and like to be prepaired and plan ahead before getting pregnant.

I have three children ages 10, 7 and 2 (at the end of may)

My first was a very long 37 hour back to back labour, there was a couple of minor complications during labour. it was very long for a start, my daughter was back to back, at one point they took a sample of blood from her head as her heart rate was dripping a bit and they also put a clip on her head. at fully I had to have her manually turned and they said she was higher up than she should have been and as a result had to be left at 10cms dilated for an hour to allow her to come down a bit.

after an hour I started pushing for 25mins and she was born, I had to be cut and had some stiches. recovery was fine other than the stiches.

My second I went to a routine antenatal appointment on my due date and when she gave me a sweep and told me I was 3cms dilated already. ( I was examined at 33weeks and was 1cm at 40 weeks was 3cms) and I would go into labour in next day or two. 9days later I came into the delivery suite in established labour at 5cms. so it took 9days to get from 3-5cms and then about 10 hours after coming into the labour ward I gave birth to my daughter. I did have pains for that whole 9days and had been having regular contractions for hours before coming into hospital. again she was back to back. other than the extremely long labour there were no other complications with the birth.

My third was breech for a very large chuck of my pregnancy and I opted for a elective section.

I had a bad reaction to the spinal and make me very nauseous and when I got out of theatre I projectile vomited for 7 hours. I also lost more than normal blood and they debated weather to give me a blood transfusion. as a result of blood loss I was given iron and felt really weak and lightheaded for the rest of the day.

I had a long hard recovery which lasted a few months.

So each one of my births babies have been wrong positions. (no idea why?) never turned? labours been overdue (dd1 8days dd2 9days) very long and second and third babies were also big babies.

I am exited about having our last baby but I am scared as I don't think its a good idea with the risks already involved with a vbac plus the labours ive had. but im scared of a section incase I have same probs.

however I think a c section would be the best and safest option for me.

I don't want to be forced or pressured into having a vbac though, as it carries risks like scar rupture ect but also because I have had awful labours that have been very long and overdue and I think it would be a really bad idea trying after the past experiences.

I have no idea how things go with pregnancies after sections though?
what happens if your adamant you want another section?
would the midwives/consultants be understanding and think a section would be best option going by my previous births?

I had an emergency c section with ds1 and with ds2 it was completely up to me whether I went for vbac or an elective as I'd had a previous section.

Are you in the UK? If so I'm fairly sure you will be invited to discuss this at the hospital and they will let you decide for yourself. You might find yourself strongly pushed in one direction or the other depending on any other factors or risks that might come to light during pregnancy.

I'd really suggest doing some research on the risks of both types of birth so you can make an informed choice. For most (but not all) women the risks of rupture is actually very, very small. The blood loss and bad reaction to the anaesthetic would put me off a repeat section, since they seem more risky to your health than a long, uncomfortably labour.

Whatever you decide, I do think your wishes will be taken into account.

Yes I'm in the uk and have done research and have decided that an elective section is what I want.

I don't want to take the risks as it is very small but you never know if you are going to have those risks and if you do its life threatening for myself and baby.

plus with the way my previous vaginal births were there is no way id attempt that after a section. id say going through a normal birth after a section and a repeat of 9day labours would be stringly advised against. im not fussed on it being a normal birth ive experienced it twice it was was horrendous.

id much rather not have to worry about the risks and going through the same after a section. so I will defo be opting for c section, my last c section wasn't great but I could be at risk of much worse should I opt vaginal birth, esp with my track record.

I'm not gona let them scaremonger me or push me into anything though, ive made my decision and im not just opting section purely based on risks but based on higher risks of something going horribly wrong if I had a very long labour after a section.

Thank you, I will.

I'd be surprised if they thought vaginal birth with my history was a good idea tbh lol x
