Hi ladies,

I need advice and opinions based on experiences!! I had a planned c-section for my ds cause of placenta previa 14 months ago.. I am due for my second ds in 4 weeks, so it's a little over 15 months in between. I've been wanting to give birth naturally all my life, it's something I really want. And also the idea of have a second c-section and having to take care of my 15 month old son pretty by myself cause dh works long hrs, it's not what I want to live!
But anyways, my doctor is supporting my decision but ofcourse she is recommending a c-section again cause it's soon between the 2 and now to top it up, I had an u/s about 2 weeks ago, around 34 weeks and my uterus (LUS) measured 1.5mm so now my doctor is concerned..
Please tell me good and bad stories about vbacs, I need to make up my decision.. Should I attempt vbac after these results?

thanks ladies xxxx

Hey roxane

I've been doing a lot of research on this because I have a thin LUS. Is this the first time that they have measured yours?

From what I've read (which is a lot!), 1.5 mm at 34 weeks is too thin to attempt a VBAC, I'm sorry, I understand the desire to deliver naturally. I know that this really bothered me with my second ds. The good news is that my recovery from the planned c-section was VERY easy and amazing really.

From the research that I've done on average they want the LUS to be 3 - 3.5 mm in order to attempt a VBAC, I have seen some studies which say as low as 2.0 mm.

I'd love to follow you and see what you choose! will they be checking your LUS measurement regularily? Have they put you on bed rest?

Good luck and keep me posted!!

Kim

Hi Kim,
I think I just replied to you on another thread..
but, yeh it's the first time every that they measure my LUS. I know my doctor is recommending a c-section but she was from the beginning..
I am pretty sure I will keep my decision of attempting a vbac but I have many conditions.. I can't be induce so we have a c-section planned for my due date.. If I go into labor, they want to see dilation progressing, they wont let me go for too too long.. they will monitor the baby's hb, if it slows down, it's an emergency c-section.. I will take the epidural as soon as possible to be ready for a csection if needed.. So I'm very aware that it will most likely end up in a c-section but I am going to attempt vbac before .. No I am not on bed rest.. why would they put me on bed rest?

It sounds like you've thought it all through and are being smart about it. Good for you for going for what you want.

I was afraid that if my LUS got too thin that they would put me on bedrest... it's one of my concerns about having another, so it's very nice to hear that your's is thin and that you're still good. You've given me so much hope I can't even express!

Will they do another check of your LUS in a couple of weeks?

Also just because I'm curious :) have been having braxton hicks contractions? I ask because my doc told me I would not be allowed to labour at all, the contractions are what thins the LUS for the baby to come out. One of my questions for him is if braxton hicks contractions thin the LUS.

Again sorry to be bombarding you! :)

Kim

I have no clue with the BH thin out the LUS but maybe thats the reason why mine is soo thin.. cause Ive been having some since im 20 weeks pregnant! Now they are alot for frequent and stronger but still no progress.. today my cervix was 50% effaced but not dilated yet.
