I hope I'm not the only one! lol

I saw Wobbles' thread and was just wondering what other veggies out there do for their Christmas dinner?

We have roasted vegetables (carrots, pasnips, onions), roast potatoes and boiled cabbage and peas. For the main roast we have...

Quorn Family Roast:

Yum! :happydance:

I used to have a nut roast but Dom doesn't like nuts so it is quorn for us this year, which is really tasty when drowned in thick bisto onion gravy and apple sauce :D

We also have yorkshire puds, vegetarian sausages wrapped in veggie bacon and sage and onion stuffing balls lol

:happydance: Can't wait! :happydance:

I couldn't be a veggie, I love meat too much. But at least you get to have the best part of christmas dinner... yorkshire pudding!!

How does that work with pregnancy if you don't mind me asking? My MW with Caitlin asked if I was veggie on saying no she said 'phew that one always becomes complicated'

 No offence but your MW didn't know what she was talking about! You can get all of the nutrients that you get from meat from alternative foods:

Nuts, seeds and pulses all contain the necessary protein. We drink milk and eat cheese so we get protein from that, too but mostly calcium. We get iron from things like apricots, green veg like broccoli and spinach, whole grain cereals like bran flakes etc. If you have a good balanced diet, you do not need to worry about being a vegetarian in pregnancy. I did suffer from sever anaemia but I saw a consultant about it who assured me that eating red meats as commonly misconceived to be the only good source of iron would not make a difference - the problem was that my body did not convert the iron into haemoglobin efiiciently, not anything to do with my diet. My husband eats the same diet as me pretty much and has never suffered anaemia.

As long as you eat responsibly and think about getting enough of everything you do not need to eat meat as you can get everything that you get in meat from other foods. Yes, there is such a thing as a healthy vegetarian diet :D

I guess it might be down to certain veggies? I know that some won't even touch milk cheese etc etc - well I think ..is that right? She said something about 'some' having to take alternatives in a tablet because of what they didn't eat?

Was just curious

That's no problem - I don't mind answering curious questions :D

You're thinking of vegans! Pescetarians do not eat meat but do eat fish, vegetarians will not eat any meat, fish or any thing with animals in or which came of the process of killing animals for food. E.G. A vegetarian will not eat sweets with gelatin in or jelly or marshmallows, will not eat cheese if it is made with animal rennet will not drink wine if it has been made with animal products etc. However WILL eat cheese and milk if it is made with zero dead animal products lol And it is not part of vegetarianism bu definition but I myself will only drink milk and eat cheese where I know that the animals have been treated well and raised organically. I also will only eat free range eggs. I look into my sources well and only ever eat animal products such as these when I know what conditions these animals were kept in. Vegans will not eat fish, meat any of the things listed above and also will not eat any dairy products or eggs.

Like you say, it is down to the individual whether they eat healthily or not. But meat is not required to have a healthy diet. I have known some vegetarians who have been VERY unhealthy, but then I have known some non-vegetarians to be even UNhealthier - eating nothing but maccy D's and living off meat ONLY no veg, hardly any eggs or cheese or anything  They were very unhealthy and I dare say their situation in pregnancy could be dire! It is down to the individual, whichever diet they choose to follow to ensure that they are getting enough nutrients for their body and eating healthily. Whatever they choose to omit they should really take it upon themselves to find suitable alternatives... It is not just vegetarians who could have complications in pregnancy due to their poor diets! All women need to look at their diets and ensure they are getting enough of the good stuff.

I hope this answers your question well enough :)
