Hi guys,

my LO is 3week and 2 days old and is now taking 5oz bottles every 3 hours.

The only problem is,he is not settling after his feeds anymore and is crying non stop.

Im sure this is bc he is still hungry as when he is finishing the bottle he is still tryin to suck on the teet.

iv given him an extra 2oz inbetween most feeds as he wont settle until i do.

This has been happening for the last 3 days.

My midwife says he is too young for hungry baby milk but surely the amount of first stage milk he is taking is too much for a baby his age???

does any1 have any advice?xx

could just be a growth spert hun, id keep him on stage 1 and feed him more for now and if his still like it in a few more days call your HV again

My HV said you can't overfeed a baby, they'll just throw up any excess. Just feed him until he stops taking it. If he drains a bottle, offer more. Otherwise, how do you know he's had enough?

BTW the cartons of C&G Hungry baby that I give Ruby say 'from birth'. Formula is so strictly regulated that if it wasn't safe from birth, there's no way they'd be allowed to put that on the packaging. I gave Ruby some HBM from about 5 weeks, she's fine on it.

Just on another note...have you tried giving a dummy after his feed? He might just want to go on sucking. I take it you've tried offering water between feeds?

My baby is the same, she is about 4 weeks and I have now had to up her feed to 6oz! (She's on SMA Gold)
My Midwife said you can't overfeed a baby, and as the lady above already said they will spit up any excess, and they know what they want.

ditto really, Archie is 1month old and 11lb2oz on Fri, he on mostly 6oz bottles now and he's seemed happier the past 2 days. He was having 4/5oz and still searching for food so ive uped the amount rather than going onto hungry baby formula. My HV has said 6oz is fine for his weight and that he will spit up what he can't take, which he hasn't done so far

We tried him with a dummy but after a few seconds he spits it out, tried this since he was a few days old but hes just never liked it and he does have water during the day between feeds and it usually keeps him going a full 3 hours but even that is failing me now =( xx
