We're working on letting a child join us on our journey :)

I woke up this morning with the name Solvi. I've never heard of it before (and girl, I know my baby names). It seems to be a unisex name of Norwegian origin, which is ironic because we love the culture and have been considering moving to Norway/Finland for some time. I'm having difficulty finding anything on the name at all, thus it seems to be a very uncommon name. I love it, what do you think? Has anyone else heard of it or does anyone else have more information on meanings/origin?

Thanks loves! :winkwink:

hey! I lived in Norway and my children are half norwegian, Solvi is a gorgeous name but I've never really heard it in Norway sol is the sun though and vi is we so it's kinda like it means our sunshine. Which is really pretty. I like it :) xx

The first thing I thought when I saw that name was "must be Norwegian." I think it's very pretty, though I'm not sure how to pronounce it. I would pronounce it "Sole-vee" but I don't know if that's correct.

Thanks for that! That made the name even better for me :happydance:

You got it! :) It's a short O. Thanks for the feedback :)

In norway an o is pronouced differently so it would sound like ser-l-vay xx

I dont like it, my initial thought was solvents

I really like it! (this is gonna sound odd, but if you're really attatched to the pronunciation you dont have to go with the traditional pronunciation...)

That's not weird at all! Thanks for the tip! :)
We're European ourselves and we think we like the traditional pronunciation. I'm quite smitten with the name, especially since I think the baby helped pick it. They say the baby can hover around you for a while before you conceive. This little monkey has already stirred up quite the occurrences. Can't wait to meet them :P
Thanks again!

I'm sorry but I immediately thought of solvent too. There must be some other nice Scandinavian names?

It's not pronouced like that because it's not American English. Sølvi is pronounded 'S' - 'i' like i in 'bird' or 'oe' or the 'u' in 'urgent' - soft l like in 'lee' - 'vee'. Sounds almost like Silvie.

there is a similar Norwegian name which is Solvei which means path of the sun, and is pronounced the same. I didn't think of aerosols when I read the name, I thought of the sun and thought it is pretty xx

forgot to say it is pronounced sol-vay, it's the name of a popular norwegian singer/dancer. xx

I really like it, it's very pretty and cute sounding :)
