Bit of a random question. I've been sorting out a lot of my children's old clothes ready to put in a nearly new sale in April. I had put aside my son's old 'big boy vests' as these can be passed on to my daughter. I just had a thought though as to whether they would be suitable under her clothes. Are 'big girl' vests any different to those of boys or is it just a marketing thing designed to get us to buy two lots of the same thing because they are advertised for a single gender?

Pretty sure the only difference with a girls vest is that they usually have a bow or some frills

Just different designs etc. Girls vests usually have frills, bows and sometimes little spaghetti straps rather than thicker ones... but my girls all have both boy and girls vests and they do exactly the same job! x

I think they are pretty much the same apart from girls' vests often have a bow on and a lace trim. I would definitely use a boys' vest on a girl

Functionally they are the same, I'd definitely put my DD in one of DS's old vests (if she would stop fighting like a cat being wrestled into a bag whenever I try to put something of her brothers on her).

They are a bit different, 'boys' ones rise higher and have thick straps whereas 'girls' ones sit a bit lower and usually have thin straps. They will be fine, though! My daughter wears her own and my eldest's old ones, I prefer 'boy' ones, actually!

I deliberately bought some boys ones for my daughter as they were thicker straps and warmer looking than the pink ones.

The only benefit I can see is in the summer more girls clothes have button ups and are sleeveless so one with spaghetti straps is less likely to show.

She's unlikely to wear them in the summer so the boys ones sound like they would be fine!

I recommend the m&s boy vests nice and thick :)

It’s is definitely suitable for her. I remember, when my ds outgrew his favorite jacket, I literally passed it onto my dd although it’s BLUE. You see, as long as it’s something that can be useful, you can let your dear daughter wear them too. It’ll be my first option rather than throwing it away.
