For the first 2 weeks of my pregnancy i was taking a multivitamin thinking i was doing the best for my unborn child until i got folic acid to take.
And i have just recently learned that taking this in pregnancy can cause serious birh defects, i am so worried and was wondering if anyone had any experience in taking this during pregnancy? I was taking 800 re every day :( I feel so bad like ive hurt my baby.
Any help would be great thanks xxxx

hi bexxy. You do need vitamin A in pregnancy but not over the recommended dose. I have just found this on a website:

"How much vitamin A you need
Pregnant women, 19 and older: about 770 micrograms RAE of vitamin A (approximately 2,565 IU) per day
Pregnant, 18 and younger: 750 mg (2,500 IU)

Breastfeeding women, 19 and older: 1,300 mcg RAE (4,330 IU)
Breastfeeding, 18 and younger: 1,200 mcg RAE (4,000 IU)

You don't have to get the recommended amount of vitamin A every day. Instead, aim for that amount as an average over the course of a few days or a week"

It sounds like you have been taking only a very slight amount over this and only for 2 weeks, so I wouldnt imagine that this would be a problem. I would mention it to your midwife to put your mind at rest.
