Hi, I wondered whether anyone had any experience of vit D deficiency in pregnancy?

Apparently, I was deficient before I got pregnant but my idiot doctors didnt tell me, and I was only told Monday at the hospital that I'm deficient, I'm 26 weeks now :-)

I am under consultant care and he doesnt think I should be given Vit D injections, but a midwife at the hospital thinks I should be!

Has anyone been in this situation? what effect could this have on the baby? she is growing at normal rate at the moment :-)

Thanks
Laura

I'm vit D deficient and i was taking the high strength tablets until pregnancy, i have a blood test in 3 months time. They haven't mentioned much to me about it, but they did tell me so many people are vitamin D deficient, but don't usually know unless they have a blood test which shows they are. I had no idea my levels were so low until i had a blood test for various things done at my 6 week postnatal check x

I am classed as insufficient, my levels were 52, range is 50-200.

I take vit d tablets, 2x 1000iu

Xx

I was deficient prior to pregnancy and only just got up to low normal right before I became pregnant. I take 50000 IU every other week and my prenatal has 400 IU daily.my midwife advised increasing that because studies have shown that babies have higher cognitive abilities from mothers with good vitamin D levels. I say get another opinion but to the best of ky knowledge there is no downside to getting the shot so if it will help than why not. Good luck!

My levels were 1O at 10 weeks. I was told not to take supplements as they can be too strong, so I switched from just taking folic acid, to taking pregnecare max, apparently it has a level of vit D in that is 'ok' I will be re-tested soon, so I'll let you know what my levels come back at =) x

Yes, my levels were only 2.8 when the normal range is 50-150, and they think the low level could be why I had pre-e so severely and so early.
