Hi girlnextdoor!
I just came across your almost 12-mth old thread about vitex whilst doing some research on it! Congrats by the way on your pregnancy, that's fantastic news! When are you due?
Anyway, I did try to PM you but since I only just joined it won't let me... so I hope everyone forgives me for long post and any nosy questions I ask!
My story is that I have two pre-school aged boys and at war with myself whether I want another baby or not. That aside, even if I did I probably wouldn't be having much luck (as it is there have been plenty of cycles it *could/should* have happened but it hasn't.
Since the return of AF after quitting b/f my youngest, my hormones seem to be really screwed. Although I'm a regular 28 days, I ovulate on the late side, have a 10-11 day luteal phase and get the most awful, painful, heavy bleeding that lasts for aaaages. Plus the last 6 mths at least I have battled with moderate chin /jawline pimples and it has all been doing my head in.
I have been checked out for endo, fibroids, cysts, thyroid issues etc... everything has come back negative, which basically boils down to the fact that I have a hormone imbalance. I refuse to go on any BCP or other synthetic hormones (doctors answer) and know if I did acupuncture/TCM it would fix it right up, but seeing as I'm not actually TTC I can't really warrant the expense of that.
SO, for months now I have been on a mission to find another way to make all this go away! I have tried lots of supplements - magnesium and B6 seeming to work the best of the lot, but still not the answer to everything.
HOWEVER, 4 weeks ago (at the start of my cycle) I decided to start taking Vitex after reading so many good things about it (but also bad!). I ovulated on day 15 (not that I am officially tracking, but I know my body so well now that it's hard not to notice all the signs!), which is about 3 days earlier that usual and have just gotten AF now after a relatively healthy 12 day LP. My skin has also cleared up in the past week or two - it is the clearest it has been in YEARS.
So far my bleeding is still heavy and painful, but we'll see what happens. I don't expect 100% miracles with everything in the first month!
The other thing you mentioned which I took an added interest in was the fact that your libido seemed to have returned the first cycle you took Vitex. Was it a lasting thing??? Or just a boost at ovulation that first month?
I ask because I am in the same boat you described - used to have a really high sex drive in my 20's-early 30's but now it is practically non-existant. Very occasionally at ovulation I will feel in the mood, but it's not often. I have been putting it down to the stresses of being a mother, being busy and always tired, but the truth is it's really bothering me and I miss feeling the way I used to (and I know my partner does too!!).
So my fingers are crossed that this vitex has another added bonus... didn't happen this month, but maybe next cycle it will kick things up a notch!?!? Or maybe it's just wishful thinking, lol.
Thanks girlnextdoor - and anyone else who reads this and has something to say!
