I am fairly new in my position within the same company I have been working for since 2001. But, my new position in a new office has been since last September. Since then, I have notice back-stabbing, liars, bullies, manipulation, hurtful gossiping, and most recently, openly challenging co-workers and fighting. WOW. I have worked in alot of environments, but this one takes the cake. The participants are EVERYONE. What did I walk into??? I love my job, I do. But, I have NO support. They are a bunch of self-centered lazy jerks and I can't trust anyone. People will come up to me and try to get me to 'pick a side' - which I won't, but it is stressful. I go to court every Friday as part of my job, and I am having an issue there, and my supervisor said he would come next time to help me work things out with them, as they say I am not doing this correctly, but then he just told me that it's "not his job, and he doesn't care". Nice. So, I am going to go next Friday and try to work it out myself, but not sure what to do if it can't be worked out. Three coworkers haven't spoken to each other in literally YEARS. One is a bully and is challenging everyone and yelling at everyone. My steno is a backstabber and pretends she is great, but goes to great lengths to hurt others (and she is 61 years old)! Last Thursday two go into a screaming match. What to do??? Any advice??? (I don't want to find a new position).

I know exactly what you mean, I think it is common in our "field" ;) Right? I think I do the same job as you.

I had the same environment and found that if I just kept my mouth shut, literally ZERO participation in it, that I was able to work without feeling the brunt of it. I know this is what you do and that's what you just have to keep doing, I think since you are still the "new girl" it will take time for it to sink in that you can't be bothered. I think it took about a year for me.

They are nasty bitches aren't they sometimes?? Ugh

yeah, I guess so. We are moving to a new building in the fall, which is being built right now. Then we are all being moved around, and I actually won't be working in their office, probably...not for sure yet. So, just have to wait it out, I suppose. Ugh. Least I am not alone. lol
