Was expecting to have C-section, but being told can normal labour.

Hi Ladies,
I was born with a heart condition called Trechology of Fallots. Since I was sixteen I have been expecting a c-section if I ever got pregnant. Today they told me I was well enough to have a vaginal labour. This has surprised as I was preparing for C-section, but now have to prepare for Labour. They have said my heart is doing well, which surprises me, but then again they know better.

My partner is bothered that they may have it wrong and it may be damage in the long run.

What should I do?

I don't know anything about your heart condition but since this is such a serious matter I would get a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

I'd second getting another opinion. I have a heart condition and see a consultant for that, plus another consultant as I'm high risk due to issues with my delivery of my 1st LO. My consultants and cardiac nurse liaise to make decisions on how I'll be able to deliver this time, so far I'm being allowed to go for a vaginal delivery but if anything changes they will amend the plan for delivery. You may find that your plan is changed as time goes on, but if you don't feel they're making the right decision then you have a right to ask for another opinion or to request a c-section. hope you get your vaginal delivery though!

I would ask for a 2nd opinion as well. But as long as its safe to have a vaginal delivery, I would go that route. I have to have a CS due to complications with my last EMCS and I would give anything to be able to have a vaginal birth.

I have a bicuspid aortic valve with moderate to severe stenosis ( serious heart condition) and all my OB doctors and cardiologist are having me do a vaginal birth with early epidural and assisted delivery (vacuum/forceps) if needed.
