I know it's very early planning but I wanted a water birth with my first but decided against as I didn't know what to expect in labour so thought just a basic hospital bed would be best however I really want a water birth this time round and eager to know of your experiences would you do it again? Do you regret it? Etc.

I've had a "dry land" birth (my 1st) and a water birth (my 2nd) and water birth wins hands down! It was so easy to move in the water and it felt so nice on my sore joints. The pool was lovely and warm and relaxing :).

I had a dry land birth first time too and water with my second. The water was simply amazing!!! It made a huge difference and felt right! I was able to deliver my own baby which meant I was the first person ever to hold him. That made it so so special and I instantly bonded with him.
I found that the ring of fire when the head comes out wasn't felt at all in the water too and all the pressure was lifted.
It was simply wonderful I wouldn't want to birth any other way! X

I had a waterbirth, a link to my birth story is in my signature. I loved it and would definitely do it again.

Ava Grace, that's interesting, I also felt no ring of fire that I was aware of.

interesting to read im hopimg for a water birth this time as long as baby cooperates and comes soon so dont need induction.
i used the pool for my first but had to get out to give birth and hed passed meconium it was amazing i didnt want to get out so really hoping i get the chance to use it this time

I loved both of mine!!! In fact im planning a third water birth. TBH, i dont know anyone who has done it that regreted it or hated it. I also dont see how ppl like giving birth on land (thats how much i personally prefer it)

Here are both of my water birth experiences. The first was a long labor bc he was face up. It was in the hospital. I can honestly say i dont think i could have EVER birthed a faceup baby for that long and with that much pain without water. Im pretty sure i wouldn't have been sucessful if i didn't have the water. The second was a HB with water. Even if you cant (or dont want to) birth in the water, i still highly recommend water therapy. I def would not have gotten through my labors without.

I think the actual giving birth part, in the water, helped decrease any tearing, it also helped relieve pain-def natures epidural!- and it created boyuncy so it made it easier to utilize birthing positions such as squatting and hands/knees. Made me feel lighter on the bump and more relaxed.

Hi honey I was induced with gel and had my waters broken and had water birth with just gas and air. As long as you don't need the drip you can be in the water x

I would say definitely have it be an option (get a room with a pool in it if you decide to birth in a hospital) so you can have it as part of your tool kit on the day. I always planned to have a water birth (though at home) and had a birth pool set up, but found I actually wasn't as comfortable in the water as I'd hoped. I'd been joking all along how I might hate it because I don't really like baths or going swimming. Turns out I really didn't like it as much as I'd hoped! But I think this has a lot more to do with waiting until I was pushing to get in and with the water not being as warm as it should have been (we have a very old boiler that doesn't work very well). I ended up getting out and giving birth on dry land, but I'd like to try again next time to see if I like it more. Water is excellent for pain relief (I didn't really find birth to be all that painful and didn't even realise I was fully dilated when I was, so I think this is why it wasn't as amazing as I'd hoped) and if it helps you avoid any interventions you don't want to have, then it's a great thing to try. I'd highly recommend at least giving it a try.

Thank you for all your replies I'm defiantly going to ask for a water birth :D I always feel my most relaxed in a bath so hopefully it will be the same in a birthing pool :)

I laboured in the water but had a 'dry land' birth for my first
My second and third (you can read their stories in my signature) were both water births

Loved having a water birth, if I ever got pregnant again, I would definitely have another water birth. I found it really helped me, made it easier to move around (I had SPD with both) and calmed me.

really great thanks thats.good to know still hopeful for water birth come on baby 4days over now

I'm so pleased I found this thread, I really want to try a water birth but don't know anyone that's had one. I really think it will help with the pain & soreness afterwards

I didn't know anyone either. And i got a lot of those fear comments "your baby might drawn, yadda yadda yadda" dont listen to those ppl! Clearly they are uneducated. ...the rest just think im nuts for having an unmedicated birth :haha: (none of them had water births bc none of them had unmedicated births, which here you cant do both drugs and water). I say go for it girl! dont let other ppls lack of experience hinder you :bodyb:
