My 2 week old DD latches on perfectly well but i still dont seem to be able to satisfy her with my milk so am having to top up with formula...

When i pump i am just about getting 2oz after pumping for aroun 20 mins...

How can I increase my milk so I can cut down on formula?

PS- am using a tommee tippee manual pump at the moment but have ordered an electric one

For some people, a pump doesn't bring out much. A baby is much more efficient than a pump. It's not necessarily indicative of your supply. Also, your baby could be going through a growth spurt. With that said, eating oatmeal, drinking mother's milk tea (I use yogi nursing tea), taking fenugreek, nursing more frequently, and increasing water intake can help increase supply. Hopefully it's just a growth spurt and not low supply.

Keep popping lo on your boob often, she will increase your supply by stimulating hormones to produce milk, even if it seems like she's not getting anything out.

Xx

Sorry, but the more formula you give the less you will produce, exhausting as it is its true. And don't believe all the things that say a baby will only feed so often, when they cluster feed they really feed ALL the time for a couple days to a week to up your supply.

I would supplement with pumped milk if anything. Are you sure ou can't satisfy her or is she cluster feeding? When she wants to nurse all the time, the best thing to do is to let her because that constant nursing as if she isn't getting enough milk is the best thing to build up supply.

Try Fenugreek, Mothers milk, and brewers yeast supplements. Fenugreek is awesome! It works really quickly!

Also eating oatmeal is supposed to help. Not porridge, oatmeal. Holland and Barrets do it, as do the big supermarkets. :)

Using formula is isnt going to help, milk production is supply and demand so the more that is needed the more that is produced. So you need to be pumping or expressing more and trying to get your baby to get as much milk from you as possible! :)

Good luck, I had this early on and I tried the works. Lactation cookies are awesome, it's the brewers yeast that works in it. Google the recipe, they are easy to make!

I agree with this however 19 weeks in and my twins feed 12/16 hrs a day. It's mega exhausting.

Thanks ladies

But is it normal that after b'feeding for 30/40 mins she still comes off crying & sucking her hands as if she is starving??

At that age, yes, totally normal. She's not starving, she's telling your body to make more milk.

Sounds normal to me! Also I can rarely get out more than 0.5oz a session with any pump, I have no supply problems except for oversupply. Them coming off and sucking their hands can often be a sign not of hunger but of them noticing their hands and it is something that they enjoy doing xx
