My DD is 13 months and I've been weaning. She only nurses twice, at bedtime and once in the middle of the night. But shes not replacing that missing milk with whole milk, she hates it. I give it to her several times a day and she will take a tiny sip. Then I give in and give her water and she chugs like she's dying of thirst. She's great with a cup. But the less I nurse, the hungrier she's getting. She eats ALL DAY lately and its still not enough. She's gotta be making up some of her missing calories with milk but she won't! And I don't even make that much breastmilk anymore and have no interest to pump and stimulate more milk Production. she can't get full lately, what can I do to replace that milk?

My DD1 went from breast to formula but then didn't like cow's milk. We introduced it really slowly by mixing in a little cow's milk with her formula and upping it each time and it worked! Does your DD take a bottle of expressed milk?

My HV also pointed out she didn't actually need milk past 1 and to sub it with cheese, fromage frais etc....

My Ds is almost three and has never had cows milk to drink, he stopped breastfeeding at 9months and hatted both formula and cows milk. I was worried and spoke to a nuritionalist and she said once his diet is healthy and balanced then there's nothing to worry about. To this day he will still only drink water. I wouldn't worry too much and just feed her up with healthy meals and snacks xx

My ds self weaned at 14 months and doesn't like whole milk either. I've tried several types of milk and even mixing with bm but he won't drink it. He eats lots of cheese and yogurt tho so figured he was fine. I asked his dr last week and he said to give a multivitamin with vitamin d in it also

Thanks for the responses!! I think maybe she's having a growth spurt and I'm mistaking it for weaning problems due to lack of milk. I just can't believe how hungry she is lately. She's only had formula once and it was at 6 weeks old (I had emergency surgery) but she won't take a bottle at all. if I have a third baby, I'm for sure introducing a bottle and maybe even one feeding of formula/day. She has a pretty balanced diet and loves cheese and I've been trying to get her to eat yogurt, hopefully that will help make up for the lack of milk.

Neither of my children drink cow's milk. DS was formula fed and went straight to almond milk. DD1 was breastfed until she was 2+, but her entire last year she only nursed before nap and bedtime. She's never been a fan of any kind of milk, but she loves yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, etc, so I'm not worried that anything is missing from her diet.

She doesnt need a bottle at this age. Give it to her in a sippy cup or beaker. My eldest wasn't too keen on milk at the beginning. I know the recommendation is whole milk but he didn't like the taste. He preferred semi skimmed so he has that (or at least the lactose free version as his now.on reduced dairy)

Thanks!

Yes I agree, she does not need a bottle. But I wish I had her on one when she was little and then I could break her from the breast, then the bottle. Breaking her from the breast with no alternative is kind of hard because I can't exactly hide my boobs, she knows where they are. Whereas I can just take bottles away.

Anyway, I'm gonna try different types of milk (almond, skim, 2%) until I find something she likes but I'll try not to stress about it, especially since she has so much dairy in her diet.

Play around with the temp too. If she's only drank breast milk from the boob she will be used to warm milk. We also bought a special milk cup when we weaned off the bottle. He liked us picking something out just for milk.

No advice but my dd is the same age and does the same thing. She has maybe 4 small bfs per day but as I am pregnant my milk supply is pretty low so I don't think she gets much milk. If I offer cows milk she spits it out like its poison! I give her two yoghurts a day, plenty of cheese and porridge made with milk to try and up her calcium intake for now but I would like her to at least have one cup of milk a day. I guess we will keep persisting and hope one day it clicks!

One thing my friend suggested was mixing milk with water and gradually increasing the ratio of milk to water while they get used to the taste. I haven't tried it yet but I might give it a go.

Could you try flavouring the milk with the flavoured powders you can buy?
I know my god daughter hated milk and started getting a spoonful of strawberry nesquick in it and now she loves it.

Trust me weaning from the bottle is no easier. I wouldn't worry about the milk at all.
Xx
