Hi ladies

My HV is telling me I MUST wean Ella on to solids at 6 months, but with only a few weeks to go, I just feel she's not ready at the moment. She's displaying none of the signs that her brother did at 6 months old.

Did anyone else delay introducing solids with their preemie for that reason, and for how long?

Thanks

Laura x

Bliss recommend between 5-7 months for weaning so I went as close to 7 months as possible. I was too scared to go beyond that incase I missed the window of opportunity. She didn't show any signs of being ready but she ate it fine. In hindsight I think I could have delayed it further and she would have been fine and if I was to do it again I would.

You know your baby best so go with your gut xx

Yep go with your gut. We didn't delay but it wasn't like she kept much down anyway :dohh: . She's not gonna starve, just continue with the iron supplements if you have them

I think you know better than hv. Your her mum they are just generic.

I started at 6month but we are taking it slow. Don't really want to give him masses to pick up and put in his mouth when he's still too ickle for his high chair.

I didn't start Jude until 7.5 months. Before then he was NOT ready, and I felt confident enough to tell the HV, nurses and consultant that. he has literally been weaning about 2 weeks and is now doing fabulously- although we are taking it super slowly.

follow your gut and don't be afraid to stick to your guns :)

We started at 6 months - she wasn't displaying any signs but I was scared in case we missed the window, and we took it very very slowly. I would go with your instincts as a mummy x
